Wategate set up???

I have a Racegate near the middle of my cross over pipe closer to the driver's side underneath.I was told by alot of guys that my Racegate or wastegates that are further from the turbo create more of a lag or response to the turbo.Some guys don't believe it does but most experts tell me that my set up is an old style set up and will cause turbo lag.I have heard of the original style swivel with the Terry Houston Downpipe but i would rather have an external wastegate for my boost control knob inside the car.I have seen a picture of an ATR set up where the wastegate is right near the turbo.It looks very good but probably very expensive.Anybody here have a different style set up in which they hooked up there wastegate and had great instant spool up???
