Driving on the highway my water temp went up to 225 deg f. ( normal temp is around 190 deg. f. ) I pulled over at the closest service station and sure enough it was running very hot .....when i stopped i found a huge oil spill under the car from what i think is the rear main seal. I shut her down for ten minutes and restarted and she was about 200 deg. f. ( fan was running) .....checked for more leaking..but nothing major like the first puddle of oil !...hmmmm i let it cool down some more...and voila back to 190 deg all the way home ( 150 KM ) ...what gives ??? stuck thermostat ??? what about all that oil ??? Help Help ?

Always turn your heater on full when limping a hot car home- this especially helps when a stat is bad, because heater coolant flows despite a closed stat. You can "cook" your stat in boiling water with a thermometer to determine opening temp. Hell, just replace it, its a maintenance item.

I checked for bubbles and alas nothing, car runs like a charm this morning, thermostat opens up as engine heats up. There is a new oil leak at the back of the engine, somewhere near the cross over pipe. Any idea's what that would be ??

Thanks
