I just got my first Grand National, after 15 long years, and am sure I'll be asking alot of questions, but thus far, I only have a few...

The car has a 160* thermostat. Cruising on the highway, it holds steady at 160. In stop and go traffic around town, it gets up around 165-175, depending. I was figuring this is likely due to the fan not kicking in until 175ish. However, today, the temp got a bit higher... My friend and I were moving her to the parking garage at work, so it isn't sitting out unregistered, tempting the man to give me a ticket. After driving around town to get there, and idling for about 15 mins, it was around 175. Once we got down to P6, we decided to "test the POSI." After entertaining ourselves with a few burnouts and then parking her, I noticed the temp was up around 188.

My question is, after that amount of idling, then break torquing a few times, is this expected behavior? Since there are no problems with temp while driving, I am guessing this is just a product of putting the engine under load a few times without getting good airflow over the radiator. It also has an Extender Extreme chip in it, which "may" be set to assist spooling when break toqueing by increasing EGT, possibly increasing the temp., I'd guess. Can someone confirm these thoughts for me?

My other questions concern what I assume to be the BoV. I didn't see it on the up-pipe, as I expected. Is it on the intake manifold or something?

My other BoV question relates to it's operation. The only other turbo-charged vehicle I've owned in the past was a Talon TSi, and the BoV made a single "woosh" sound. When, what I assume is the GN's BoV activating, it's like a "WOOH-Wooh-wooh" sound. Like it's releasing the pressure in a pulse. Is this normal operation?

Thanks for any information provided.

What kind of BOV, Is it a ATR? because mine does the same thing and it sounds nice!!!!!

Where on the intake is the valve you are talking about? I wonder if you are thinking the EGR is a BOV, because there really is not much room on the intake for anything - hardly worth polishing because it is so covered with stuff.

The whoosh-whoosh-whoosh sounds like the typical air backing thru the turbo and air cleaner because the use of a BOV is not common on these cars.

The temperature increase is totally normal due to the extra work you put on the engine and it is not a big deal when one considers that most thermostats on today's cars do not even open until about 190*. Bet if you drove the car easy for a few minutes it would have dropped back to under 180*

Thanks for the replies. And you're probably right, I'm guessing. I didn't realize it was common for these cars to not have a BoV, so I have to guess that that's just the sound from the air coming back out the way it came in; it has to go somewhere.
