Is there anyone on the board that's using anything " ephedra free " like hydroxycut, xenadrine, trimspa, etc. I was wondering if this stuff really works for burning fat to get definition when working out. I want a little more definition before I start to bulk up, if that makes sense. I haven't started a serious lifting schedule yet, but I am about to. I just don't want to look like one of my friends, just big and strong as hell but kinda looks fat. If you look at THE ROCK he's a perferct example of not really overdoing the cut look and not looking fat either. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hydroxycut

I've used Hydroxycut with great results while preparing my self for a promotion board in the Marines.

I lost 23 pounds in one week taking this! I ran 3 miles, worked out afterwards and went straight to the sauna everyday for one week. I wore a plastic garbage bag under my sweats, this help shed a lot of extra water weight.

Screw the Adkins diet, it just takes will power:D

Although, for your safety consult a doctor with something of this extreme if your planning on going all out. Be safe.....

With Ephedra gone there really is nothing to take it's place (legally) anyway. They are starting to use another ingredient call Synephrine, or something like that. It seems to give me the jitters. I never got jitters from Ephedra. I've used ephedra for over 8 years and never had a problem. Thanks to these dumb ass soccer moms that took the supplement wrong I am now forced to order illegal drugs to get the results I need.

I never thought ephedra products were good for weight loss. Most of the weight you lose is water weight. What it WAS good for was giving you energy when you're dieting and also controlling cravings. Some of the new ephedra free products should be utilitizing Green Tea Extract which is fairly good for water loss and a bit of energy.

One product I would recommend is called "Thermogen 2" by SciFit. It contains Yohimbe which increases testosterone levels minimally, but it's an awesome weight loss supplement cause it gives you energy and causes the loss of water weight as well.

My wife uses the product and Yohimbe works REALLY well on women. It doesn't cuase enough of a testosterone boost to mess the woman up, but, it ripped my wife up and gave her abs and good definition all over her body. Once again, I used the Thermogen with Ephedra. I have about 2 years supply of this stuff and bought as much as I could until the April 12th ban.

Good luck!

i am planning for a good workout, but not that good. :D

thanks ray.

now, did you just lose water weight or actual fat?

At first, the first 5-10 lbs you lose (usually in the first 2-4 days) is water weight. Again, by taking a "fat burner" you are not going to lose fat. Losing fat comes from diet and exercise. Taking a pill won't do it alone. The fat burners are supposed to raise your metabolism, which in turns burns more calories.

I would suggest a normal weight lifting routine in which you work every muscle group once per week.

To lean out I would suggest a good, balanced diet, high in protein. Try for 5-7 meals a day.

Cardio: The cardio that burns fat the best is a low intensity cardio. For ultimate fat burning take 220 and subtract your age. Take this # and multiply by .65

220-age= Max Heart Rate

Max Heart rate multiplied by .65= 65% of max heart rate, which is the "fat burning zone".

Doing too intense or too much cardio will result in the body utilizing (eating) it's own muscle for fuel.

Cardio is best done right after lifting weights (30-45min) or all by itself. Never do cardio BEFORE weight lifting. This defeats the purpose of lifting weights.

GN138..thanks for the insight. i knew that taking these supplements wouldn't do it alone. i just need a definitive path to go down so that i don't waste any time. that's all i was looking for.

now, you say eat a diet high in protein. won't that add weight, or muscle mass. i'm not looking for that quite yet, just definition and then build muscle mass from there. what does the high protein diet do for you when you work out alot? i always thought it added bulk.

Protein CAN add muscle...it's what muscle is made out of. Protein is necessary for rebuilding the muscle you tear down when weight training. If you don't WANT to get big then it won't happen by just eating and training. To get big you need to want it, it doesn't just happen

Total calories would = MASS

Protein has 4 calories per gram, Carbs have 4 calories per gram and Fat has 9 calories per gram.

Carbs cause more dramatic insulin spikes, so if you're not looking to add much mass/ size, then I would suggest keeping your carbs low-medium. Also, limit/ stop your intake of soda (diet is ok) and any other sugary foods.

Try to eat "good fats" like olive oil, fish, flax oil, nuts

Try to stay away from meals that contain a high amount of fat and carbs. Eating a meal high in fat and carbs is the ultimate fat GAIN meal. :) Fast food is an excellent example of this.

I lost alot off water weight, but at the same time I really started to tone up. I started seeing vains and muscles again that I haven't seen since I was in high school. This is due to the fact I started power lifting a few years ago so I was big and bulky, but not defined....now I just want to slim down and get ripped, while maintaining my strength. Although, I've been slacking lately;)

1. I highly suggest always starting out slowly and always warm up before working out as this will keep you from being injured

2. Ensure your eating properly, eat a modest breakfast, small snack before lunch, eat a modest lunch, small snack before dinner, eat a good size dinner. Eating 5 times through out the day with good food;) is ideal, give you proper nutrition and energy.

3. Proper sleep and time for your muscles to repair them self is very important. Get on a good schedule and work out routine.

There is alot more, just wanted to start pointing you in the right direction. Good Luck and hope this helps a little.
