I want/need to learn how to weld and I would also like to get some metalworking and fabrication expereince. If anyone knows of any schools (not full-time vo-tech programs, I'm in college and can't make that kind of time/$ commitment), classes, books, videos, or anything else that might help me learn that would be great. Any opinions on which is the best way to go would be great as well.

If anyone local (NJ) wants to take some time and show me the ropes that would be great. I'd be able to pay you a little but could also offer computer and heavy lifting services. Thanks in advance guys.

I dont know about there, but my local high school offers adult vocational training at night for everything from auto mechanics to auto body maybe check with the board of education or labor department offices near you

Get some kind of welding book and study it. There is bunchs out there.

Then get your phone book, look up Welding and show up in person to a few different shop's around your area. Ask them if you could work for them part time doing anything around the shop and tell them you are interested in welding.

Caution though, welding/fabricating can get addictive.....very addictive.:D

Good to have under your belt while pursuing other goals.

I supervise 22 welder's and go to school part time. Im 25:eek:

Ron Covell out of CA travels around and puts on metal working classes/work shops. Ive bought some stuff from him and spoken with him via telephone. VERY nice fellow.

He sent me one of their tapes they offer for free when one of my orders was shipped to the wrong person (actually his wife Alloma sent it). some of the stuff that was shown that was created out of flat sheet metal was down right amazing IMO.

Anyway heres a link for you to take a look at what he offers..

I took some welding classes at night at my local community college. It was dirt cheap. Now I'm hooked and gotta find the money for my own welder!
