Hi,

I am looking to buy a new transmission for my corvette.
I am going to install a ZZ4 engine (355HP) and want a transmission with OD, currently there is still the TH 400 under it and for highway use it's terrible gas/milage.

I live in Europe and it is almost impossible to find a shop here that sells these tranny's or they sell them highly overpriced.

Therefor I was looking to buy one in the states and have it shiped overhere, but there are so many companies that sell them and they all claim they have the best.
But I don't want to buy one and that it breaks after a couple of months because then I have big problems.( shipping it back....)

That's why I would like to ask some of you to give me your opinnion on the following shops I found and the 200R4's they sell.

I don't know anything about all the different things they install, upgrade, on the transmission so please give me your opinnion on what looks the best buy and the strongest one for me.

I am mostly going to use the car on highways but when I am at red lights I love to put the pedal all the way down :D

Here are the shops that I found some interesting transmissions

Please tell me what you think or if you have other suggestions share them with me.

Thanks in advance,

If you are installing a 200 in a Vet you are going to need a reverse manual Vb. The TV cable issue is one road you dont want to go down when you are installing a 200 in a car that never used a TV cable. I am not sure any of those guys sell a Rev manual transmission.

That looks pretty slick. I ordered one today to try it out. The manual rev will be the cheepest as you will not need a special transmission core like a BRf or some of there other models. That cable set up will be nice if they have worked out the precise geometry.

Wouldnt it be alot less trouble to go to a 700r4 or 4L60e , or 4L80e for that matter?

As well all agree to disagree on here; I would like to give my advice.
You can keep the standard style valve body 2004r and use a tv cable and bracket from any 83-88 V8 Chevy Monte Carlo. The performance valve bodies are preferred (CZF, BRF,BQ, OZ,OG, TAF) Ofcourse this would work fine if you are running a Quadrajet. If you are running a Holley, then you would need something like the kit you listed above. You will also have to decide whether you will run a lock up torque convertor or not. If you run a lock up you will need some sort of switching device to engage/disengage it. TCI, B&M and others sell kits for this.
Someone mentioned a 700r4 or a 4L60E...
You would run into the same issues with the 700r4 since it also relies on tv cable to regulate line pressure/shift points. The 4L60E would be an even greater expense since it is completely electronic and would require some sort of trans controller.
The 2004r would be the best bet for a th400 replacement since its mount location is almost the same. You will need to replace the 32 spline th400 yoke with a 27 spline yoke as used on Powerglides, TH200c, TH350, 2004r, etc. Driveshaft length might need to be adjusted slightly.

You can use any 2004R Vb that is correct. Your results will very dramaticly. If you dont like surprises stick with the prefered VBs as listed. With what you will have invested to get one shipped + duty tax buy one that will be the least likely to have a problem.
