I have a 1986 Gn that I have been using 112 octane race fuel in. I have an SMC alcohol system installed but I was just using race gas. My SMC system is still installed and operational. Back when I was using it I would use denatured alcohol from Lowe's in the system. I am still going to use race gas at the track but I am considering using 93 octane and the alcohol on the street. Is denatured alcohol still the stuff to use or is there something better out there? I need something easy to get. My GN has a 160 thermostat, TA 49 turbo, Blue Top injectors from a Thunderbird, 3 inch downpipe, no cat, 2 1/2 inch exhaust from cat delete pipe back, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, Walbro 307 hot wired fuel pump, Hr driver's side motor mount, boost commander controller so I can set boost at a twist of a knob from the cabin, and a Jim Testa chip. I use turbo link as my scan tool. Bruce

Methanol is what I run (& most everybody else I think  ) w/ 93 octane
You can go 50/50 Meth/water, but I run straight Meth
Meth usually MUCH cheaper than denatured
I get mine from a race shop for about $5.00 /gal
A 5 gal jug lasts me about 6 months of almost daily driving
w/ a similar setup as yours

Something easy to get is denatured and it works..However, it is expensive...My next trip to the track i'm going to get a 5 gallon jug of meth, but up to this point the only thing I've ever used is denatured and results have been good....

Denatured works; just gets $$$
Denatured is Methyl/Ethyl mixed
I get mine at a local speed shop

The older SMC kits with in-tank pumps required denatured and a lube.
The newer ones with external pumps it was recomended methanol or methanol/water mix. No lube.
I have seen mixed results with denatured and pump life. For the majority pumps have lasted less using denatured, than methanol. This again is with an external pump.
Methanol is cheaper and allows a slight bit more boost than denatured does.
But if you dont have access to methanol.. it is what it is. Having the choice, its a no brainer. Why spend 17 when I can get something for 5 that works better.

Call around to speed shops and find someone selling methanol, I get it here for $4.25/gallon and run it straight.

If getting from a speed shop make sure they have a pump JUST for methanol and not one pump for all fuels.
