Best horror movies (but not quite horror)

Evil Dead
Evil Dead 2
Army of Darkness (ok, not horror at all, but Bruce is DA MAN!)
Night Breed
Lair of the White worm
The Ninth Gate
Fright Night (check out Marcy Darcy)

Genuine horror goodies:

The OMEN (favorite)
American Werewolf in London (classic!)
Jeepers Creepers (haven't seen the 2nd)
Reanimator (one scene in particular is awesome)
Hellraiser 1, maybe 2
Howling (1 only)
Roman Polanski's Fearless Vampire Killers, or Pardon Me but Your Teeth are in My Neck

...and if you're really feeling brave, Sleepless in Seatle. Gave me nightmares for weeks!

"The Ring"
"Final Destination" (maybe the 2nd one also but i havent seen it yet)
and there's a new movie coming out with Halle Berry, Penelope Cruz and some guy and i think it's called "Gothim" or something like that.

horror/suspense genre, both of these were creepy :

-- The Thing (1982, john carpenter remake)

-- Village of the Damned (1995, john carpenter remake)

The original 1960 "Village of the Damned" is perhaps creepier, but I think it's out of print.

NO ONE HAS MENTIONED THE BEST SCARRY MOVIE MADE!

The Shining

It's a great movie, actualy I am watching it now lol.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1(the best)

Nightmare on elmstreet 1 was really cool.
Hellraiser 1 aswell

Ok I agree with quite a few so far.

But my 2 cents are....

Scariest movie --> Evil Dead 1
A well done story --> the changeling

Wow...someone else picked some real winners:
  • Evil Dead
  • Re-Animator
  • Original Texas Chain Saw Massacre
But no one has mentioned:
  • I Spit On Your Grave
  • Night of the Living Dead
  • Phantasm
I could go on and on....

I can't believe all you people driving scary looking cars could forget the scariest car movie-Christine, yeah she was a Chrysler product but she was scary anyway....

LOL, Netflix sent me Phantasm the other day, just sent it back. It was pretty cool. Need to send for the 2nd now, I think that one was still cool (the others kind of lost it). The Cuda is BAD! Good flick. The interview on the DVD with Angus Scrimm is funny b/c he looks so normal. Said when the producer told him it was a movie where he'd play an alien, he thought he'd be playing an immigrant. LOL!

One of the best ever is the Shinning for sure in my book. the Ring was a total waste of film. The only thing good about The Ring is that it gave so much good spoof material to Scary movie #3. I remember as a kid going to see the Pit and the Pendilum, I had to leave half way thru it because I had such a vivid imagination and it scared the M&M's right out of me.

Once again we agree Ben, anything with Baby Hughie (Micheal "the moron" Moore) in it scares me to the core.

one last thing I thought Fargo was great too, but that was so close to the real story it really stuck with me

As has been stated, The Evil Dead trilogy is the best. Ash is one cool guy. ("Listen up you primitive screwheads.")

I do have to note that I was horrified when I saw the scene where the TR gets smashed under a trailer in the movie FX 2. If you've seen that and didn't have nightmares something's wrong.
