I was wondering if anyone knows of a big buick v8 that will bolt upto our trannies?

Do any chevy v8s bolt up?

Just thinking about putting in less $$$$ on a big v8 with a turbo, cheaper and more reliable power....find this out after talking to buddy old school muscle racer. He likes the thought of a 455 ,400, but If I do it in the future, or if my engine is shot , sooner that later, I would like to be able o use my tranny.

I have a GN tranny in my GS with a 455. Actually they have a dual pattern and you can bolt them up to most GM motors.

what has a dual pattern, the gn tranny bellhousing? ou are using an olds 455? are all buick pontiac olds the same tranny bolt patterns?

Not without an adapter... the bell housings are different between buick and chevy. They do make the adapter though....

So yes, you can use your trans with a chevy motor.

The GN tranny's have both the BOP pattern and the Chevy pattern....

Really??? Did NOT know that...

just knew if I used a chevy trans I need the BOP adapter. But that is the reverse of what he is talking about so...

You got it....

The GN tranny has both.... so you should be covered for most old school GM engines excluding 60 deg Chevy V6's.....they have a unique bellhousing pattern.

every Chevy V8 made since '55 will bolt to it- that's EVERY V8, including the 348 and 409 "W" motors and every big block up to and including the 502 crate motor. even the newer LSx motors will bolt to one. every Chev inline 6 since about 53 or so will also bolt to it.
the Buicks, Olds, and Pontiacs have all used the same bellhousing since the mid 60's, and the big Caddies started at around that same time, as well.
i almost forgot about the Chevy 90 degree V6 that came in 229" (3.8- chopped off 305]) and 262 (4.3- chopped off 350).
hell, an older "iron duke" 2.5 liter 4 cylinder out of a 70's Monza and such even has the BOP pattern, i think.
so, to answer your question, pretty much anything installed in a rwd GM up to the mid 80's and a few V8's from the mid 80's to the current model year will bolt to a 200-4r out of a GN.
