so i guess bad EGR valves(the square thing behind the EGR with a filter in the back?) can cause head gaskets to blow too.

Can you blow a headgasket in any gear besides third?

What if you knocked overtime and then you finally get the tune right and never knocked again? Can the gasket still blow even when you're not knocking?
 
every incident of detonation will cause damage to the stock head gasket and "eat" at the gasket material....you rarely blow the gasket because of the immediate situation.....it is usually an accumlation of damage, and it finally won't hold
