Hi guys , i just spent $300.00 to install a new converter because the old one died on me , so went and got a converter from a gnx thinking it should be better than a regular d-5 ( or is it the same?) well as it turns out now this converter is giving me the same problem the other one gave me  , all i did was change a chip to one with more boost but i don't think that should screw mt converter-up ( or does it ?) or it could be the other converter was bad to begin with ? ---do you guys have any idea why this would happen:confused: thanks for your help in advance guys ,

Carlos :(

A couple of questions.

What happened to the first converter? Did your transmission need servicing after the first failure? Were your cooler and lines flushed out?

Lastly, there isn't anything special about the converter in a GNX. It was a plain ol' D-5. Did someone sell you a converter under the pretext that it was a special GNX part?

The converter is the same !!

Hi Mean Buick, thanks for the feedback- I was told that it was a 2800 stall converter  , my first converter was bad when i brought the car, ( the owner told me it would be giving out soon and 2 weeks later it did) I really don't know if the guys where i had the new converter installed bothered serviceing the tranny and I'm preety sure they did not flush out the cooler and lines
(Dam good point i'll remember that this time around ;) )

Thanks again, carlos

A convertor failure is scary stuff since it can spread metal pieces throughout the trans. I would drop the pan and take a look inside. I had this happen and it ruined the trans.

almost forgot

Hi Lee, thanks for the reminder i will check it out, as soon as the car started to make noise i killed the motor i did'nt want things to get any worse so i'm having it towed to the repair shop,

Thanks again, Carlos

CONVERTERS

Carlos,

You might want to check out the 2 street converters sold by www.ramchargers.com

Look at the Red and the Orange stripe converters for $259 & $319. (I think you'll want the Orange stripe for $319)

Give them a call and ask for Dave or Mike, tell them about your car's set-up and that you're a TB.com member, and they'll fix you up with a good deal on a very nice affordable street converter that you know will be a good one.

Lots of guys on the board run these converters, and www.ramchargers.com is most certainly a very reputable, helpful, & friendly vendor to do business with.

Find a shop to drain & flush your transmission before installing your new converter. A good shop will have the Trans Fluid Flush Machine that circulates a cleaner through the trans, which makes sure nothing dangerous is left lurking in your lines & internal passageways from the 2 bad converters. You'll definitely also want to clean your pan and get a fresh filter.

This would also be a good time to install a tranny cooler, like the HD B&M in Summit or Jeg's catalog.

Sorry about the tranny trouble, Carlos. After all this, I'm thinking you'll be good-to-go! :)
