I've noticed a difference in the way my car drives and slows down. And I want to know what gear should I drive in and which to race in..... D is 3rd from the bottom. But I notice when I let off the gas it slows down hard and fast like I hit the brakes. People told me to leave it in D. But overdrive (D) 4th from the bottom decelerate smoother but I don't know if since its a higher gear I won't accelerate fast enough in a race. Let me know.

Just leave it in OD.
You have engine braking in 3rd/D .........4th/OD doesnt have engine braking due to the one way sprag.

Gear ratios
3rd is 1:1
4th is 67:1

When racing, doing a burnout and staging/building boost, you should have the indicator in 2 for the extra line pressure. Once the car shifts into 2nd you can put the indicator in D.

This is good to know. I always keep it in OD.. Racing or crusin but now i kno better...:-).

If your not going over 40, leave it in drive. If your over, go overdrive. Thats from Carl Rossler, one of the worlds best tranny builders on almost any OD tranny. Ive never asked Vince Janis his opinion on this, he built my tranny.

When I bought my GN the dealer said "Leave it in OD at all times." Last year I asked a transmission person who
is also a vendor on this site and he said "Leave it in OD at all times, racing, crusing, city driving, OD at all times."
Claimed to have raced his old 9 sec. car in OD!
For me, the confusion never stops.......lol

Stock tranny vs. built tranny...many variables change. You don't run the same fluid in a built tranny as a stock. You don't run a big cooler on a stocker and you don't run a temp gauge to monitor s stocker. If your convertor is locking and unlocking because your on the rpm borderline, I think it's best to go drive. I was told by Vince Janis...don't boost it in OD!!! You will have guys say different. Make up your own mind. I spent $2500 on my tranny, so I'm driving it the way I want to. I run a HUGE cooler and it never tops 145 degrees unless I'm on the transbrake. I have a new PTC going in as we speak too. It will feel different for sure.

So many opinions but all help. I drive in OD to prevent the hard (down shift jolt) I get when i let of the gas in Drive
