Ok guys since im a begginer and im sure youve answered this ??? before, but what would happen if you spun or thrugh a rod or bearings. as i posted in my other post i have a knock that is noticeable when the car has warmed up but it seems to come from the front of the engine. i did the test were you put like a screw driver in ear and test it out but nothing round the block under it or by the plenum. i had it before but i dint think it was major since i ran last weekend a 13.5 with that knock in the car and it felt great no problems.(i know dum of me).
I guess what im asking is if you blew one on this thing's can you still run a 13.5 et. or you cant drive it alot, my other thought was that i might off have a loose piston slaping around since the car is original 136K or maybe the timing chain please help. any advise will be taken thanx in advance.

Whatever you do, if the car's knocking from the engine, don't race it until you find out what is knocking and fix it! Practically any internal engine component that is creating a knocking noise is bad news, and if it goes unattended, it will cause a failure that could be WAAAAAY more expensive than if you fixed it in the first place. Just driving the car could be bad enough, never mind running the thing up to 5K rpm, while racing.

Anyway, a spun bearing can equate to the bearing spinning in the bore and ruining the journal on your turbo crank, to spitting a rod out the side of the block and anything in between. If it's the timing chain making noise, when the chain finally breaks or jumps teeth, valves could smack pistons....which means valves & guides, quite possibly pistons, etc....

Get the problem diagnosed, then get it fixed.

Good luck,
Steve

Thanx steve i guees it was pretty dumb of me racing it i had no idea that it could be that serious well i guess im not going to drive it around till i get it fix thanx again.

Let us know what you find. I'm sure someone else will chime in here with more info than I can.

And don't feel dumb about it. We'd just hate to see ya blow the thing up and end up spending a lot more cash than you had to. :) Some of the parts are getting hard to find so it's best to err on the side of caution.

Steve

You can usually tell if you threw a rod by the puddle of oil under the car draining from the hole in the pan/block that wasn't there when it left the factory. :) I have done that to a ford and a chevy in the same day in my teen years!! I'm actually kind of proud of that accomplishment. :)

A spun bearing will usually effect oil pressure. Also a very noticeable squeak could accompany this. If it is more noticeable as it warms up then I would not think it is piston slap as that is usually worse on initial start up and then quiets down as the motor warms up. Check your valve train.

OK....I'll bite...how do you spin a bearing?

I ask because with my recent breaking of the u-joint at WOT I now have a slight squeak..squeak...squeak.....when the engine idles. Seems to go away under load.

Personally hoping it is the serpentine belt or alt......

Will a spun rod bearing affect oil pressure or just a spun main bearing?

Steve

Any spun bearing can effect oil pressure. But not always. If the effected bearing is now leaking oil, a drop in pressure will occur. I have actually seen a spun bearing raise oil pressure when it prevents seepage. But not for long.

Renthorin,
Just remove the belt and start your motor. That should bring things into focus a little better.
