What is the best GPS for the $

I have been shopping for a GPS but there are so many out there and I dont know what to look for.

I do know that I want a hand held that will have the local roads in buttcrack Mississippi under $300.

Does any one know any thing about these things?

Popular Mechanics publishes reivews of GPS systems - check there. Go to the library for back issues.
Also, make sure you get a GPS that can record top speeds. Perfect for when you are on your YZ 250 riding along mining and logging roads and you open up the throttle!
Some systems offer free down-loads to up-date the road maps periodically.

Garmin eTrax with mapping. Awesome unit.

Garmin Emap, its the same as the street pilot only hand held. i have had my for 4 years now. i love it i walked my self out of the woods with it.......... thats a long ass story right there but i dont go many places outside of the city with out it. Jack evers makes fun of it but i love the damn thing.
