Can someone tell me what the part is that's going into the trans and has a wiring connector plugged into it and is on the drivers side of the transmission just above the shift cable for a '87 GN?

So the part going into the trans is the TCC solenoid, correct?
If it's on the outside, do I have to remove the pan to change the TCC solenoid? Anyone have a picture of the TCC solenoid? Does it thread into the trans? Thx in advance.

The connector going into the tranny has the + and Ground for the TCC solenoid as well as third and fourth gear output switch wiring to the ECM.

The TCC is inside the tranny and you need to remove the pan to change it out.

Two bolts hold it in place, allegedly aftermarket ones for other trannies with a shim are better than the stockers.

A search will probably find these parts and how to install them.

I only replace defective parts.

I'm not even sure your TCC is defective so that decision would be up to you of course.

I have never seen or heard of anyone replacing those switches unless they were proven to be bad.

Well, I either have a TCC or MAF problem. I'm going to try a friends MAF today to see if my surge goes away. What symptons would I get if the pressure switch was bad? Thx in advance.

My miss went away when I fixed a broken spark plug wire but then still had it at high rpms. My car at the beginning of the week sort of died (running on 3 cyls). Ended up getting the coil pack and module replaced and the miss went away. And no more tranny problems with the rpm going up 200 rpm and back down when I was at 50 mph and 60mph. Weird, I thought it was a TCC problem.
