With the mods in my sig, and a 93 chip from Eric, what kind of times should I run?

I the chip I have is nothing special, but was just one that I had a guy burn just to get me close enough that the computer could compensate enough to drive around. My turbotweak chip is on the way.

I ran it at the track without the chip. I ran a best of 14.035@ 94.xx mph. That was with a 2.0xx 60 ft, and a 8.9x 1/8 @ 77mph.

Also, my ignition module bit the dust 3 days later, and I put a series 2 on it(spoolup feels like it might be slightly better). I wasnt spinning. I could launch at around 8-10 lbs, and it just didnt want to take off. Like I said It ran a 2.0 60 ft. I dont know if the chip didnt have enough timing, or what was going on. I think I also might need valve springs.

Basically, I am just wanting an analysis of whats going on, what I should run, and what might be keeping me from getting there.

Also, what kind of difference would I see with alky? I am trying to decide whether to do the powerstroke + alky, or the turbo first? Would I do better with the gt67 at low boost, or the stock turbo on higher boost/alky.

Thanks

Ben

Id go bigger on the IC also with alchy/propane before I go bigger on the turbo this should keep you busy for the meanwhile....and should make for haul ass combo as well....

Any input on what kind of times I should be running how the car is now? The main reason I ask, is that I have been trying to make sure that the car is running as good as it should before I go and start modding stuff more.

Before you go throwing go-fast parts at your car, You might try and find out why it's only going 94 mph through the 1\4. Reagardless of 60 ft. times it should be clocking about 100 mph. Then, get alky :D .

Good luck.

Thats what I was asking about. I know that thats a problem. That is the main reason for this post. I just kind of threw the queistion about the alky in. I know my chip was way off, and my ignition module went out a couple days later. I have a chip on the way, and put a series II ignition module/coils on. I plan on doing valve springs in the near future. I am hoping that the chip makes a big difference. My chip was just one that I had a guy throw together for me so that it would run with the injectors, but the blms were still REAL high.

You can take a look at my times in my sig. for a comparison
It was from my first time ever at the track, (not the first run, thats a different story)..

Hopefully next time will be even better..I put a ported tb/plenum, Big Neck IC and got some 275/50/15 BFG's on 8" GN Rims.

My 60's were pretty consistant 2.1's on the 215/65/15 street tires

I know the Ported TB/Plenum wont help much and there is lot of debate on this subject here, but there is no doubt in my mind that the throttle response is better on the low end.

Momar,
This may be helpfull. ( I only have a 1/8 mile track near me).

Here are the best times I ran with stock turbo and stock MAF and Injectors. I was running a local shops Turbo Tune chip and BFG radial TA's 265X50X15.

2.01 8.57 80.78 18.9# bst
turbo tune Stock Turbo stock inj.

2.046 8.571 82.55 19# bst turbo tune
2.186 8.844 82.09 19# bst turbo tune
1.989 8.497 82.72 19.9# turbo tune

Then I went to 50# inj Impala 3" MAF Trans + and Extender chip.

1.948 8.287 84.71
1.965 8.315 85.38
2.085 8.531 84.13
2.074 8.507 84.36

I was running Xlene + 93 octane on those runs--This was before I got my Razor's Alky PAC kit. Now I am able to run 28# with no NR. But I am running a bigger turbo now, CPT65BB

bogie1, Was this with stock IC also? How much Xlene did you mix with how much gas?

Thanks

Ben

Ben,
Yes this was with the stock I/C and I was running 5 gals Xlene to a full tank of gas.

your times are about what they should be, but to do it right, do a complete spring cleaning, boost gauge and scanmaster, then do the basic stock upgrade.......fuel pump, exhaust, chip, intake and the little freebies. go from there.

didnt read your sig

sorry, didn't read your sig. you should be going a lot faster than 14.0 with 2.0 (outstanding for street tires) 60ft. Spring cleaning and tune before making any decisions. that 94 could be valve springs for sure.

Without race gas, you aren't going to reach your cars potential. It's nice to see what it will do in street trim, but if you want to break into 12's or better, it best to run CP16 racing fuel. With an octane rating of ~117, you can run 25 psi boost. This is leaded gas, so you should remove your cat prior to racing and most likely need to replace your o2 sensor after a few tanks.

A chip set for timing, TC lockup and adjusted for high boost should also be included.

Alright, a couple things.

I am embarassed to say, but the 2.0 was on the MT's. I think that a lot of that is from the chip programming. Like I said, my blms were way off, and I dont think I had enough timing down low. It just wouldnt take off. My turbotweak chip is supposed to be here within a couple days.

I installed the 3200 vig converter saturday. That appears to at least be masking my low end problems. Before I would not even spin even without heating the tires with a 8-10 lbs launch. Now, I leave at 5 lbs and spin for a few feet and just go. Before it felt like I took off, and then bogged a bit, but it just keeps pulling now.

As far as valve springs, I plan to do those, and check for exhaust leaks next weekend.

Race gas... tempting, but I at least want to get any problems worked out first. Also, I think I am going to go the alky + powerstroke route. I am going to wait a little bit before I try running to much boost though because right now I am driving this daily. I am looking for a beater right now though.

Thanks

Ben
