Which mig welder do the metal workers here recommend? I only need it for thin sheet metal, and for weldup stainless pipes ranging from 1" to 4" in diameter. What kind of amperage should I look for? Which brand(i heard lincoln is good) This is for DYI jobs at home, for the car.

Also which air compressor is a overall best value, for air tools to use for the car? Like an impact wrench, impact gun, die grinder tools such as these. Again for use in home garages. Thanks, im going shopping it looks like

**BTW only reason why im shopping for these items now is because I went to get a quote for my 3" IC pipes to be made, and it was over $400. Im over that, might as well buy my own tools and give it a go myself. I weld just find, but the welder I learned on was top of the line tig and mig. I am not hesitant at all to do the welding myself, but I want a machine that is right for me. Same with the compressor, Just would like tools that are NOT over kill and willsuite my needs. Thanks for the input!

Miller or Lincoln mig and any compressor that works:biggrin: and you where looking for this http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/parts-sale/208662-gnx-fender-flares.html

miller or lincoln is the brand, what amp should I look for?

*I got my gnx flares and vent already :) Thanks though. Im going to do some extensive body work and mold my gnx flares into the body so it looks like its made for the car. This of course when I get it repainted, but its an eventual goal.

For air compressors, I favor traditional belt-driven, oil-filled crankcase, cast iron compressors. They are quieter, more durable, and often more "honestly rated".

if you are limited to 115 volt power, then look for a motor rated at 15 amps & 1.5 Horsepower @ a typical 1725 RPM. 1.5 continuous HP is about the most possible with a standard 15 amp/ 115V circuit. Ignore the hokum of "peak horsepower", that's a useless number, usually only the cheap-crap motors claim that.

This setup should provide an honest continuous 5.0 CFM @ 90 psi, which is enough for all the tools mentioned (but probably not enough for spray guns).

You should also get a tank of around 20 gallons if possible. I have a wheelbarrow-style compressor, which for compactness has 8-10 gallon tanks and seems sufficient, but a larger tank will provide more reserve.

If you have 230V in your garage, then give thought to upsizing to a larger vertical tank compressor with a 3HP motor (15 amp @ 230 volt).

I've seen some reasonable looking Campbell-Hausfeld & Ingersoll-Rand compressors with these attributes. Sears probably has some, too.

Craftsman 16728 26 gal. Air Compressor, 2 hp Wheeled Vertical Tank with Accessory Set at Sears.com

I have this set up but with the 33 gal. tank. Not as noisey as people say, but louder than the oiled type. Also about half the price of the oiled type:D Just get the warranty for 3 yrs/$50 and your covered. Has worked great on several recent projects.

im going to sears today to look at it, that accessory pack is sure nice.

then heading to harbor fraight for a look a welders and air compressors.

if i didn't so many people offering their help, and offer an engine stand to use, kragen's got 1000lb engine stand for $40 which isn't that bad. But barrowing one to use is always better, besides I cant pay kragan with liquor :)

anyone have air comps. or welders for sale??? I can trade my slave labor for some tools!! Hope everyone enjoyed this weeked! Some of the best weather in the nation right now in so cal!
