My girlfriend and I are planning to move to Arizona, hopefully before the end of the year. She is leaving on Aug 1st to visit with her sister who lives in Tucson and do some scouting for a new address that we will be calling home. Could be anywhere from Flagstaff to Tucson.
How about some ideas from you Arizona residents, as far as places of interest, nice neighborhoods, where you live, suitable employment, and so on.
I'll be coming on Aug 15 and we'll be leaving on the 23.
Any places of interest, local restaurants, Good hot wings, bars that you recommend, Big Margaritas places where TR's might kick some a$$ at nite?
Any suggestions welcome and appreciated.
I do maintenance and machine repair, spent last 8 yrs. working for Loctite.
She does medical billing.

As far as general areas to visit, north Scottsdale is a cool place to just drive around. Plenty of VERY nice cars driving around all the time. While you're there you could visit the Penske museum. Take the I-10 north from tucson, then take the 60 east, then the 101 north, go about 20 miles and exit on Scottsdale Rd. heading southbound. The museum is about 1/2 mile down the road.

From there you could just cruise down Scottsdale Rd. past Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd. and you'll hit tons of very nice places to eat, drink, whatever...

On Saturday night you MUST attend the car show at The Pavilions. Basically get back on the 101 going north and exit westbound on Indian Bend. The shopping complex there is the Pavilions. Show up around 6:30 and gawk at all the cool cars, There's normally at least one TR there and you'll find our group usually talking about cars. We're normally a very knowledgable bunch. From there we usually go to a bar or restaurant and hang out. That is also where you will find out if there's any racing going on that night.

It will be too hot to really go to a track and see any decent cars when you're here.

Good places to visit:
I'll try to give areas for ya...

- Anywhere within a 3 mile radius of the intersection of Frank Lloyd Wright and Scottsdale Rd. is good.

- Just north of the 101 on Tatum Blvd is a large new complex called The District @ Desert Ridge.

- Paradise Valley is a fun place to go and gawk at all the nice houses, if that's what you're in to... It is a couple miles south of Shea Blvd. on Tatum. Just driving around aimlessly is fun.

- Old Town Scottsdale. Area south of Camelback on Scottsdale Rd. Lots of neat shops and tons of clubs.

For Good Wings:
Copper's Sports Grill - just west of Tatum on Bell Rd.
Goldie's Bar - 96th St. and Via Linda Rd. (mild=hot there)
Sport Peppers - 16th St and Bell Rd. Take their "13 wings in an hour" challenge and you'll get a t-shirt and your picture on the wall. I tried a wing and almost passed out.

Major business areas:
Scottsdale Airpark - www.scottsdaleairpark.com
The area between Arizona State University and the 101 is chocked full of businesses.

That's about all I can say about that. If you want more specific information I can help, but I could type volumes with the given constraints.

Car Stuff- Pavilions on Saturdays is a Must.

For good wings- Long Wongs on Mill Ave in Downtown Tempe

Not sure what your looking for, there's alot of miles between Flagstaff and Tucson

Going to be doing a lot of wondering around to try and find an area we like. Probably have to rent a house for a while and get established with a new job and stuff, before buying a house somewhere.

You might be interesed in a couple investment properties (rentals homes) I have by Paradise Valley Mall. One has an air conditioned 2 car garage, RV gate, vaulted ceilings, rounded corners, wood shutters, surround sound, etc. and big yard. Very clean: 1100 sqft. 2bed/2bath. Let me know if you want to come see it when in town. I would rather rent it to a fellow TB.com member than through an agent.

Safer areas are: North Scottsdale, NE Phoenix, Biltmore, Fountain Hills, Chandler, Awatukee.

All the bars listed by MadPSI are ones I frequent too. Copper's is at the top of my list for the badgirls

Thanks for the good info so far. We're probably going to stay in Scottsdale for a couple of days starting the 15th. of Aug. when I get into town.
Any more suggestions greatly appreciated.
 Party sounds good anytime to me. :D
