I have an awful popping / missing problem - hence my other post.....

I currently have AC Delco R44TS plugs gapped at .035" installed.

Are these correct ????

See below :

Car sputters and pops heavily under load but not in idle. Cant drive her like this.....

I have:

-new AC Delco plugs, R44TS gapped at .035"
-new GM O2 sensor
-new 87 GN coil and IGN module
-new 8.8MM plug wires
-stock chip and ECM
-FP set to 32-35 PSI at idle (lvac line off)
-using 93 octane gas
Jeremy (NOCOOLER) sold me an 85 ECM with a Pitbull chip in it. Should I try that ECM/chip or try new plugs ? Could my stock chip be toast ?

I HAVE BEEN FOLOWING YOUR POST ,I RELIZE YOU HAVE A FRESH REBUILD BUT YOU NEED TO GO BACK TO YOUR BASICS,
1 CHECK YOUR COMPRESSION TWO WAYS WITH ALL PLUGS IN AND RUN CAR AT IDLE ON EACH CYLYNDER FOR JUST A FEW MOMENTS AND THEN ACEL LIGHTLY ,YOU MAY HAVE A BENT PUSHROD OR A BROKEN VALVE SPRING,OR A WORN CAM LOBE ,BY DOING THIS COMPRESSION TEST THIS WAY WILL HELP DIAGNOS,
2 YOU MAY NEED TO PULL OFF YOUR VALVE COVERS AND CHECK LIFTERS,PUSHRODS,ROCKER ARMS,
3 CHECK VALVE TIMING
4 CHECK IGN TIMING
5 CHECK FOR VACUME LEAKS AND ROUTING
6 MAKE SURE YOUR TURBO SPINS
7 THINK OF THE LAST CHANGE YOU MADE THAT MIGHT HAVE CAUSED THIS PROBLEM
8 CHECK ALL GROUNDS
9 CHECK FOR LOOSE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
10 TAKE YOUR TIME
HOPE THIS HELPS:

Thanks for the reply and links...

I was giving some thought to my plug wires - Crane Cams 8MM wires...bought them in winter during my rebuild - they were on sale. Got um cheap too...could be I got what I paid for huh ?

Second thing - my new 87 style coil / Ign module might not be grounded properly. I hgave no idea how its supposed to be grounded (its case grounded right ?)....

I got that stupid bracket adapter plate with it but how the hell do you use it ????? None of the holes seem to match up...and where does it screw into the bottom of the ign module ????

For now I have a ground strap attached to it which I secured btwn the ign module and coil and the other end is on a header bolt.

Unfortunately that was my best solution.....how else do you ground it ?

Those wires should be fine - I ran em......

44's @ .032-.035 should be cool at stock boost. I usually ran CR43TS's @ .035

I grounded all 3 studs on the module to a header bolt, and that cleaned the car out bigtime.

Try that other chip - it really made a difference in my car. The fuel tables are completely different. Watch the knock retard - I can't stress that enought - I think that has 26* in it.

More things to look for:

TPS voltage steady?
IAC set properly?

Keep looking - you'll find the probelm.

Just changed all the plugs to R43TS plugs gapped at .035

#4 was fouled - black sooty coating on it. Checked compression on #4 - 130 PSI and it held for at least 5 mins...till I unscrewed the tester.

All the other cyls compression tested same and plugs were ok. Looked normal.

I was really not sure why #4 was only one fouled....any suggetions ?

The terminal at the coil was solid...maybe a bad wire causes this ????
Bad plug ????

ttt

I noticed your list of new parts included a new coil pack and Ign. mod. Is this still connected to 84-85 wiring? If so you need to get a pig tail for the new 87 Ign mod. to work ( pin out wise ) to the old wiring!!!!!

Thx

I fixed the miss and fouled plug situation.

Bad / cheap plug wires. Those Crane Cams wires listed in my sig. are JUNK ! They were quite cheap when I got 'um and seemd like a good deal.

When I checked the resistance on them - YIKES - they were garbage. I might as well have used speaker cable on the plugs.

New OE wires on it now - not the best - but my Taylor wires aren't in yet.
