What scan tool will work best for a modified 87 GN and a modified Syclone?

If you want one tool for both vehicles, you need TurboLink.

If you want the best tool for the GN, I suggest DirectScan.

If you really don't know what you are doing with scantools yet, get Turbolink.

What about Scanmaster? People have been mentioning those as well. On the Turbolink, I'm concerned about the Data rate of 1 frame / 1.25 seconds as opposed to the 18 frames / second on the Direct Scan. I have a major sputtering / cutting out problem that I am trying to diagnose.
