Any idea what my 1985 GN should be running? I have all of my mods listed in my sig. Also, by February I'd like to upgrade the injectors, add an adj. fuel pressure regulator, put in a 2800 stall, convert to an 86/87 ECM, and add an electric fan. You think by then I should be able to hit 12's? I never ran the car and I have no idea what it is currently doing.

What kinda chip are you running? And injectors? Sounds like you got what it takes to get yourself into the high 12's at least, but i would say tuning will be the big issue. If you're tuned, with a Ta49 you should do pretty decent, cause they spool not too shabby with the stock convertor. Do you have T-link or any other type of program to tune your car?

Hold on a minute Terry!!! One thing for sure with all that extra air flow, big down pipe, big exhaust, cold air kit. A good cam wouldn't hurt, but not a necessity (stock ones have been in the 10's). Butttt you diffenitly need to get yourself some new injectors at a min. some 36lbers but no larger than 42lbers. Best to install them when installing the turbo so you don't have to do it twice. Trying to bolt on a big turbo with stock injectors is just a waste of time. All you'll be doing is knocking yourself into head gasket heaven.

Sounds like a strong mid to high 13 sec GN. Without those injectors, and especially without a good chip, you are not going to break into the 12's unless that car is running perfect.
My mods are almost identical to yours as I am slowly putting the car together. I recently got a .30 over block, which has shown a 12.8 slip with a really decent combo of a 33 turbo, 36# injectors I believe, 3" dp, eletric dump pipe, nitto drags, a whole mess of other goodies, and that car was pretty well tuned. No cam, but heavy porting. That was for a 12.8 slip, just prior to the slicks and a posi rear. Ask Herb Fishman, or turboregal84. He sold me his engine. These cars are pretty tempormental, and you need a whole lotta air, and enough fuel to keep that beast happy. If you want to make a fast car, porting is almost required. That intake is junk and blocks a lot of good flow. Heads should be at least gasket matched with the intake. Ask anyone on this board who does not have an intercooler, it takes a lot of work on our cars to get those 12 sec slips. You can do a search on this forum and find out what I asked about how to get the 12 sec mods. There is also a recipe page on GNTTYPE.org. Good luck...I think you have a strong car, and you definately got the mods for a high 13 sec with good tuning, but if youre looking for faster, I think you about half way there.

Good luck!

John

Thanks for all the info guys. I have decided not to install certain parts in dribs and drabs. I'm gonna install all the parts at once. Which brand are the 42 pound injectors? Anyone have a link to them? To change the ECM, do I need just the 1986/1987 ECM, MAF, MAT, and Caspers wire kit, or something else? Is it true a Scanmaster 2.1 won't work correctly until all this is done?
