Hey fellas I've reached the point where there are a few ways I can go and i'm not exactly sure which way to go. Before I start this is what I have on my car at this moment:
-Walbro 340
-Racetronix hotwire kit
-Billet adjustable fuel pressure regulator
-42.5# injectors
-Burned chip for the injectors
-STOCK turbo
-STOCK elbow
-STOCK downpipe
-K&N cone
-K&N breathers
-performance spark plug wires (blue, look really good)
My exhaust consists of:
-Custom bent 2.5" piping (a bit rusty)
-Single shot
-No cat
-Dynomax muffler
-Dump pipe
I'm looking at a couple of routes at the moment. First, my drivers side exhaust manifold is cracked so i'm going to take that off and have it welded. what I was wondering was with my setup what would be best. 3" THDP and a hooker catback exhaust. Or a bigger front mount intercooler. What should I do next??? Ive heard good things and bad about both routes. What do you guys think. I would really like to keep the stock turbo, and keep from opening up the engine. However I am open to any ideas. What would give me the most bang for my buck??? (besides alky) If you guys have any suggestions let me know.

Thanks,
Carlos

good point, I want to go into the twelves for now on good radials. i plan on keeping the car for a long long time. eventually I'll want to go faster but for now, 12's will do

Good bang for the buck at this point is porting the stock turbo elbow. The THDP may pick you up a little, but porting the elbow is $300 less.

If you were going to do anything to the intercooler, welding on a $70 big neck is a great up grade. There is about 2 psi lost in the neck at 20 psi. I would hold off on a front mount. These cars go into the 11's easily with only a big neck.

Custom bent 2.5" single shot? I'd feel better with 2.5" duals like the hooker system. Your exhaust may not be costing you much now. You can do back to back runs at the track, unbolting at the cat flange to see if it's hurting you with your current level of mods (or if you have a dump, use that).

For 12's you need to work on traction. Rightside airbag, good condition rear suspension, etc.

With those injectors, a race chip, race gas and traction, the stock car with your mods will max out in the high 11's, so 12's shouldn't be too hard with tuning.

Thanks for the replys guys. Hey UNGN do you think I could go with a ported elbow and the Kirban 3" downpipe. Whats the difference between the THDP and say the Kirbans one 3" is 3"
isn't it? Anyway for my birthday My dad was going to get me the Hooker 2.5" exhaust. But since a couple days ago my car has been runnin sick. At first I thought it was just me. But today I raced my buddy in his DSM ( who I usually spank by at least 3 or 4 car lengths) and both races I only took him by a little more than a car or so. I dont know what the hell is up with my car:confused: So I was thinking of asking him to get me a scanmaster. What do you guys think???UNGN you seem to know whats up what do you think? Any other opinions are welcome.

P.S. which is better Scanmaster or Turbolink?

First, you should always have some kinda scantool with you....
Second, tune the car with the scantool before you mod anymore! Fine tune that baby to run at peak performance and then proceed to mod. This will begin to get you where you want :)

GOOD LUCK DUDE:D !!!!!

the difference in the TH downpipe and Kirban's 3" pipe is that there is no elbow on the TH...it flows smoothly from the turbo....Kiban's pipe bolts to the stock elbow....as UNGN pointed out, most of the restriction is in the elbow

before you spend any more money, take it to the track

For a scan tool. I love turbolink with boost sensing. You need a laptop, but laptops are as cheap as dirt, now. A laptop that will run TLink will be even cheaper. Any old 386 (even one with just dos) will do.

As for downpipes, I've posted it many times, but I've done a back to back comparison between a THDP and a ported elbow/2.5" downpipe.

The THDP averaged 11.790@115.67 for three runs, the ported elbow averaged 11.845@114.15 for three runs.

At this level, the THDP was worth .055 seconds and 1.52 mph on my car. 1.5 mph is a healthy increase, but the HP increase appears only to happen when it revs at or above 5K.

By that mighty mississippi in the Quad cities :D

Quad cities consist of : Rock Island IL., Moline IL.,Davenport IA. and Bettendorf IA.

Not too far from ya!

i would say if you are not trying to spend a lot of money to just get the kirban (or poston!) three inch pipe...and port your stock elbow... definitely get a scanmaster 1st and foremost is the ability to know if you are detonating

wes

Scan tool is the first thing I would get.

If the exhaust is OK then I would get a ported elbow and downpipe for cheap - buy them used off the board.

Best bang for your buck mod is definately alky injection. It is very easy to tune and very easy to install. Which is better driving around town with 15 lbs of boost and getting knock every now and then or driving around town with 22 lbs of boost and frying the tires at will at anything less than 25 mph and not worrying about knock at all.

Hey guys I went to Nats this friday and although I didnt get to see any races, I did get to do a hell of a lot of shopping. I dont know what got into my dad and I, but we bought a bunch of stuff. We were going to go with the suggested ported elbow, but after talking it ovewr with a few friends we figured that the THDP would be best for the long run. So here's what we got:

-3" THDP with test and dump

-ATR 2.5" stainless steel dual exhaust

-RJC power plate

-complete T-top and door seals

-driver side door

plus we're ordering a scanmaster tonite or tomorow (where should I order from?) What do you guys think?I plan to get the big neck fo the intercooler too (where should i get that from?) Cant wait to get this all on, hit me back with some feedback.

Thanks

Ramchargers has the scanmaster call Mike Licht tomorrow. :)

I bought a big neck intercooler already welded from a board memmber for $150 with no scoop just reused mine. It was in good shape too. I would do a used parts search. :)

Jay Jackson 62mm throttle body mod. is a good thing to do when you do the power plate. I had a spare unit and sent mine to Jay since I drive the car a lot and needed to have all the parts available to put it together in one day. A used stock throttle body and upper plenum core to send Jay should run no more than $100 used.

I think you should send me the stainless steel exhaust for all my work typing this. ;)
