I currently have a PTE-60 thats leaking oil out the exhaust side. I've been looking into the PT6262 journal bearing S cover. It has gotten alot of good reviews on the board. Would this be a better turbo than sticking with a new PTE-60 and why? Does it spool faster and would it last longer?

It will support more power but it will spool slower. Going to an s cover will cost an additional $200-300 if you replace the air inlet and relocate the iac. If you have enough converter I'd just get an e cover. If your getting oil in the ex it's not usually because if the turbo

I was under the assumition that these new gen turbo's spooled quicker then there entry level counter parts. So are there any gains for a street driven car I would see to getting one compared to sticking with a PTE-60? If I got something out of it more hp, quicker spool, and quicker off the line I could justify spending the money but if it's going to cause lag and the car to be slower?

I see what your saying about sticking with an e cover as I don't plan on upgrading the maf pipe or intercooler anytime soon. But I'm almost positive it's the turbo causing this as I just had the engine apart and the heads looked at and everything checked out. I'll be putting a known good stock turbo on the car tonight to verify this just in case I'm wrong.

A precision te60 has a 31 trim ex. Same as a te44 and it has the 60-1 compressor. A fairly quick spooling turbo with a 2400 stall converter. The 6262 has a f1 62 trim ex wheel. It is considerably heavier than the older Garrett 31 trim but flows considerably more. The f1 replacement for the old 31 trim is the 57 trim. The 5857 will support a lot more power than the te60. It spools about as fast as the older Garrett turbine in a precision .63 housing. If your te60 had the garrett housing you would need at least a 2800 stall with the 5857 to have similar spoolup. The 6262 journal needs a good 3000 stall converter to get a really responsive spoolup. Some are happy with a 2800 but its not going to have that really fast spoolup unless its a custom spec'd ptc 9.5". Any converter called a 2800 built with off the shelf parts will be lazy. Even the roller bearing version needs a 2800 to be a real tire fryer. The 6262 is for 10 sec power and shouldn't be considered unless you are looking to run 11.0 or faster. You have enough engine for a 6262 but unless you will be turning the boost up and have a really good converter it's not worth it

I was running the 60 at 20psi but I have a 2800l/u that probably isn't the equivalent to a ptc 9.5" but it's no slouch . So if I was going to spend the extra cash and get a dual ball bearing which would you go with?

What performance goal? If you aren't going over 20 you won't gain much. The 6262 could easily over power any lockup converter that isn't built to be locked at WOT.

That's a hard question to awnser considering I haven't taken the car down the track since it was a hot air car. I keep planning to take it but with a hectic work schedule and not being able to get it running well enough because of things like this make it difficult. But with all that said I would be happy with mid to high elevens. And with that said I would like to change the turbo once and if I have to upgrade the converter at a later date I will but I would like to beable to run it as is and have a fast street car as well if possible.

You can get there with just about any turbo above stock. The 5857 will easily cover that. The te60 would also. It's your call. Id go for razor alky kit and the 5857. Spend some $ having it dyno tuned also.
