Better yet, plan ahead. I'm 51 and have never used (nor ever plan to use) an ATM. ;)

I usually have one hand on the 9 while I'm tapping mac.. so worst case.. I'll wind up with a hole in my jacket and maybe some blood on my money :D

I am a CHL holder.

The second I feel my life is in danger I will remove the threat.

Silly, When I take my check to the bank I get cash to last me though the week.

Now the last time someone tried to take anything from me (my work truck full of tools) they wound up getting dragged down the street 2 blocks as fast as I could get the old poke and stroke to go with there arm smashed in the door. I did however stop to let the door open as not to run the guy over and kill him before I called the cops and kicked the **** out of him.

Ok.

Can you get his gun pointed in a safe direction in less than .1 sec?
If yes, remember that human reflexes always have a .1 sec delay, if you can move the gun before he reacts, he's pretty much screwed presuming you can drop him with one hit:D

If not, act REALLY scared and drop some of the money as you give it to him. When he bends over to pick it up. . . BAM. . .face meets knee.

just my .02 worth.

As a concealed hand gun license holder I'd probably still give him the money. Especially if i did not see him coming at me with his weapon. However, if i see him from a distance with his weapon and there is time, i will present my firearm and fire. of course that is a sticky situation because he has had more time to think about shooting, even if it is a second, thats one more second than i have had to react.

If he did not have a gun and just a knife or bat or just his fists, I would just use the pepper spray I also carry. Of course you may ask why I have so much "fire power" on me. Well, I ride my motorcycle for a larger percentage of time and after being assulted at a gas station on my bike, i dont feel as safe anymore. However, there is no shame in just giving him the money if the situation is leaning towards that outcome.

I also have a concealed weapons license, and while I always have my .45 in the vehicle, I rarely carry it on my person. If it was a stick up for $20.00, I'd probably just give it up to save myself the headaches of legal battles for years to come, but if I felt my life were threatened that would be different story. I had a buddy who went to London for a semester of college and went out drinking with some other guys he had met over there from the US. Well one of the guys needed some more money so he and my buddy went to an ATM and as they were leaving, they were confronted by two thugs, one of which was carrying a knife and demanded their money. They looked at each other and in unspoken agreement proceeded to beat the crap out the two would-be thieves and took the knife. As they were leaving the bad guys were starting to get up and my buddy said and I quote "Never f@#k with Americans". True Story.

I have to say that if someone approaches me with a deadly weapon, threatens me with that weapon and demands $ I'd feel my life is in jeopardy. As we all know who've been gun trained....deadly force is now justified. My training dictates that if somone is presenting a deadly weapon at me and with the intent to use it I don't go down the force continuum. I either match that level of force or go up one level. That being said if someone presents a knife at me I won't be using pepper spray. It reminds me of the old saying "Don't bring a knife to a gun fight".

haha that reminds me of my old football coach. WE asked him what to do if someone came at us with a knife. He said Blow there F*&%&%@ brains out. He was in SWAT:D

Old saying.....

Old saying in my job," I rather be judged by 12 then to be carried by six".
Which means if I must protect myself or others I will use necessary force to stop the threat!

Artie
