I recently bought a non-locking converter as well as the non-lock conversion kit that Full Throttle sells. Is there anything else I need to do or buy to run and non-lock converter? I remember someone mentioning something about an O ring for the input shaft or something like that??? TIA

Joe,

There is a check ball that has to be removed from the end of the turbine shaft, as well as an o-ring about a quarter inch back from the end of the turbine shaft. Then move to the pump and remove lockup valve assy and replace with the non-lockup valve assy. and you're there.

HOW

Don't have to remove the pump. Access to the valve is gained by removing the pan which will expose the valve snap ring at the front of the transmission. The converter clutch valve assy will be the one on the right (driver side) and is recessed just to the front of the valve body.

Is removing the pump and changing out the assembly a bitch?

Removing the pump from the trans just to change/install the converter clutch valve is really not necessary.

Removal of the pump can be somewhat of a job but can be done with simple tools. You can email me and I'll tell you how I remove the pump.

Your refering to the TCC solenoid correct? I'm not sure I follow you with the "snap ring" part; I'm clear on the check ball and O ring. Can you clarify?

They're only 2 snap rings that are visible when the pan is removed.

If you are going to change it with the trans in the car it is on the DRIVERS side toward the front of the trans. It will be visible when the pan is removed. The snap ring is recessed into the trans pump, look close enough you will see the snap ring that holds the valve assy in the trans.

Joe, sorry I don't have the gift of gab to explain thing very well. You should be able to find an ATGS manual that deals strictly with the 200-4R. It has "exploded" drawings that are easily read/understood. If you can't find one locally I will lend and send mine to you. Just let me know.

HOW

The TCC assembly is on the passenger side of the pump. It's real easy to change out. After you pull the pan and the filter, unplug the TCC harness to the case and from the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches. There are 2 bolts that hold the TCC solenoid to the case, remove those and pull it down. Up inside the hole where the TCC went you will see a small snap ring. Take it loose and the little washer sized disc with the hole in it. Once that's out the springs should drop down, if they don't just take a magnet and retrieve them. Follow your directions when replacing the non lock valve and you're set. Also, and I can't stress this enough, MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE THE O RING OFF THE INPUT SHAFT AND THE CHECK BALL IN THE END OF THE INPUT SHAFT. If you don't do these 2 things you WILL burn your transmission up in no time.

Joe,

Sorry for sending you the wrong info...my bad! Hope I didn't cause you any problems. I haven't used the TCC solenoid in the past 4-5 years and I simply forgot it....sorry.

Donnie,
Thanks for the info, you clarified what I thought. I watched my buddy do a conversion many years ago and I couldn't remember WTF all he did at the time. So basically remove the O ring, ball bearing, and the crap you mentioned inside the TCC hole and I'm good to go. Is this ball bearing right at the very end of the shaft or a little ways inside? I looked at mine yesterday and I don't see any bearing unless its way up in there???

No problems bro, I havn't touched the tranny since I yanked it out the other day. I was collecting info and waiting for the non-lock kit to show up before I messed with it....as of 10:46am today the SOB has not showed up yet

Yeah, the check ball will be in the end of the shaft. Good luck!

Joe, Ive heard some trannys (depending on who builds them) already has that check ball drilled out in the front of the input shaft. Im going to be doing this soon too, despite what Mr Wanner wants me to do :) HTH

Actually Dennis had already removed mine as well. I just got back from dropping the tranny off with him to go through it and see if there is any damage inside. If it looks good or the damage is minimal, I'm having him put in a billet front drum and a few other hard parts. I went with a Pro Torque 9" billet N/L converter stalled at approximately 3200-3400 with the idea of a larger turbo down the road. My pop is trying to talk me into putting the turbo off his car on mine and selling the new TE44 that's on there now...don't know what I'm doing yet??? Sup with Neil?

Kinda tinkering on dads limited today. Getting ready to do a compression test on her. And still waiting on rimz for the black car......... other than that, nada bro!
