Hey all,

I'm planning on fixing up my 84 Regal limited and was wondering where I could get the 3.8 turbo engine.
I have the NA 3.8 in it now, and don't want to put my money into an engine that is not what I really want.
Does anyone have any reputable websites that I would be able to purchase the engine block and all the fix'ins
to drop a totally new engine into it, and how would it link up, would I need to get a different transmission?

Would like it to be all new/remanufactured.

Thanks,
~KnightHawk

Dont buy a reman turbo engine unless its from a vendor on here. I have seen a handfull of reman engines with na cranks in them with crap pistons as well.Find a complete engine and trans on here for sale and have it rebuilt. Im not sure but the block you have may be a turbo block that has to have turbo drain installed. Pull the heads. They are probably turbo castings get a rotating assembly and install it in you block if its a turbo casting

Is there a way I can find this out on my car from something on the engine, or an identifying mark, Also my engine has 167k miles on it, would that be a viable solution to rebuild that one?

What you want to see is a block casting number ending in 109. The short answer to your question is answered with another question: What's your budget? If you try to piece an engine together with a block from here, crank from there, heads from somewhere else ect. you're going to still be missing some critical items like wiring harness, intercooler, ecm, fasteners, fuel lines, sensors, and the list goes on. I'm working on generally the same project (carbed G body to fuel injected LC2). I was lucky and found a wrecked GN still intact and was able to snag everything I wanted for $2500. IMO, knowing what I know now, if I couldn't find a similar deal on a complete set up I'd swap in a SBC or some other mainstream drivetrain. Not only that, if you've never done a engine swap before (like me) it's a labor intensive effort. It can and has been done before, but the devil is in the details.

Well I don't think my last reply posted, it's not showing up.. Anyhoo.. My budget is around 3k, but it would have to include everything, I'm gonna look around for a wrecked rear end gn or ttype.. Although I don't think I'll be as lucky as you.

I was indeed lucky, and I recognize that not everyone can be. It helps that I live in Houston, so my chances went up with the large population here. Is there any local TR guys in your area? Maybe they know something.

Go into the serch option and look up casting numbers I know there are some 109 blocks made without the drain back hole. Im not sure where they are but someone on here will chime in I sure and know what numbers to look for . the best thing to do is to find a good parts car with a rusted body and swap eveything over .The last we4 I bought I only paid 2,000 for it. I got my money back and still had the drive train and harness and a boat load of other parts left. dont forget about the 7 1/2 rear end. That wont last

No luck, This may be another project for another time, I think I'm going to just restore it to stock specs, with probably a few bolt ons.

IF you do buy check what you buy if you cannot check the engine (bearings, cam, lifters) don't pay a dollar over core value.
good luck dude.
