So I just bought my new 2 1/2 ton floorjack, and I don't know where to jack my car up from. I would from the front, but it looks like it will hurt/damage my intercooler scoop. I was going to go from behind the wheel but it looks like it was just the subframe, and it wouldn't be ok.

So where do I jack it up from?(that sounds interesting..)

Sorry for the stupid question, but I'd rather ask and be flamed, then not and screwup my car.

Jack it up from the floor. :D

I jack behind the front wheel on the frame all the time. I also jack on the rear end pumkin and front crossmember.

OOOOooooooo! See, I was confused, I thought you used the ceiling. Thanks for clearing that up, WHEW!! It was going to be a doozy getting my car upside down and sticking it 10ft above my head.

Thanks!

Acceptable locations:

1) immediately behind front wheels, where the frame is fully boxed in, and reinforced. Don't jack up where the frame is just an open U-channel, it will deform and bend.

2) immediately in front of Rear wheels, where the frame is fully boxed in, and reinforced.

3) under the center, cast iron "pumpkin" of the rear axle, as mentioned by JP87GN. Don't inadvertantly lift on the swaybar.

4) underneath the frame cross member, that is under the engine. It's fully boxed and very strong.

5) under rear axle tubes, far outboard, not in middle.

6) under front A-arms, as far outboard as possible. I don't like this one, a std floor jack really doesn't fit quite right and might slip off.

You are MORE than welcome. It has been a real pleasure helping you and I hope by using my advice in a wise and sage manner you will manage to get the car off the floor. :)

LOL, that's funny stuff. Don't feel bad for asking though, I wish somone would've done that with mine. First thing Ragland asked me when we put my car up on his lift was why I tried to jack my car up in the wrong spots. If I actually ever did my own work I'd have taken the blame for it.

Hey, it's better to ask and not screw up your car! I heard a story about an old man who bought a new Honda in the early 80's and didn't trust the scissor jack that came with the car so he pulled the trusty bumper jack out of the old car and went to use it one day, ripping the rear bumper off the car.

You know, I feel like I am a better, stronger, more intellectually gifted person now that I have your advice. I have a new furvor for life, and I feel I can accomplish anything! One small step for a floor jack, one giant step backwards for my self esteem! To infinity and beyond.........!!!!!
