A lot of guys are right on the money here.

About 5-6 times a year I trip over some spectacular deal and must buy it on the spot but I usually shop extensively for vehicles I purchase. My wife says I'm nuts and it makes her crazy that I'll spend $500 on fuel driving around for 6-8 weeks looking. If you look long enough you will find that gem someone is letting go of, you must be patient. I tripped over my F350, 7.3 like that. I searched for months for an inexpensive 7.3 but they were all junk under $20 K here in Florida. On the way back from looking at another looser I took the long way home instead of the interstate and the guy was putting a for sale sign in it on the side of the road as I drove by. It was exceptionally taken care of in great condition and had 200K but was showroom condition and he was asking $10K. Two years and I have not put a penny in it but fuel.

Found my 43K mile 87T 15 years ago for $4500 in a Nebraska garage, my 40K mile LT-1 Fleetwood like that for $6K and my 40K mile 67 showroom Caddy for $3K in an estate sale.
My daily beaters are just as good. In the last four years I found a 99 Mercury Grand Marquis LS with 63K for $1500 (garage queen from a lady that was 85, needed power window regulators and the plastic intake replaced) and a 96 conversion van with 130K for $2800 (needed tires and a radiator) and a 97 K2500 Silverado with a 454 for $4500 (guy was 60, could not get it to run faster than 30 mph, he put the new fuel pump in it wrong) and a 97 Cobra with 80K niles for $6K for my son's college car (guy was 50, garage queen, wanted the space for a new project car, triple black flawless paint and new tires) all in spactacular shape with great paint and don't have all those payments and expensive insurance.

I need to go into the rust free car locating business for all you guys up north.

I will never buy a new car.

Mikey
