Well, that's what I need, and I thought I read somewhere that it was a different spring from the non turbo cars. Any help?

Myself, Don Wang, or SE Turbo.... all three have in stock.

I just need to know how much and where to send the money too. Anyone of you. :)

Governor springs

Do any of you guys with the springs know what RPM the various springs shift?

Also, first to second shift is OK at 5500 rpm but second to third is 600 rpm lower. How do I raise the second to third shift point? My trannie has the PTS shift kit--great upgrade--and is a CRF valve body.

you too

Clay I`ve got about the same 55-5600 1-2 /49-5000 2-3 /4500 3-4. Bruce said to try a touch stronger 2-3 spring & see what ,but I haven`t got that far yet. Motor ate a cam last week. I`ve got another idea to try & if it works I`ll tell ya , just don`t want to embarrass myself just yet.

You could add a little weight to the small swing weight on the governor. More weight = lower shift points. However, this is in grams. A gram is alot when talking proper calibration. I've heard of folks drilling a hole and installing a pop rivet or small screw to add a bit of weight.

Matched shift points

I got the following offline tip:

"If you feel comfortable dropping the Valve Body, remove the 2-3 shift spools. There is a spring in the stack. I have used a small washer to put behind the spring, to make it stiffer, thus increasing the rpm shift point. Sorry I can/t tell you exactly much to increase it. I/ve had mine in out many times. Mine shifts 1-2--5700, 2-3--5700."

I'll try this on my next out-of-body experience. Does anyone out there have a rule of thumb for washer thickness for the above approach?

Regarding your tip, John Larkin, I've used one of Bruce T's techniques with a twist to add weight to the light governor weight. Bruce recommends threading the hole in the light weight and using a set screw--6/32--to retain the spring. (see Strengthen the 200 4R)

I used different length set screws until I got the first gear shift I wanted. You can also add a nut to the set screw on the outside of the weight but this reduced rpm shift point too much. Just be careful about running the set screw in too far--keeps governor open--or letting it stick too far--hits the case. A 3/8 long set screw lowered mine about 300 rpm. I had ground off too much weight so this got mine back to 5500 rpm.

Now I just need to get the second gear shift to match first.
