I second getting that blow off valve thingy off of the up-pipe. Also, the crack at the #2 cylinder where the support arm is broken from the tube...is that cracked all the way through?

How much tension is on the wastegate? You need the wastegate arm at least short enough that it requires a good little tug to pull it onto the puck arm.

Wastegate arm is pretty snug (good tension). I just ordered a new TE 44 Turbo getting rid of the ebay junk. I like to know what I've got. That turbo and bov is the last non stock items that were on the car when I purchased it that haven't been replaced. No the crack is not all the way through.

Getting that junk Ebay "TURBOCHARGER" off of there will sure give you a better seat of the pants feel with that TE44! It is amazing what "efficient" compressor and turbine wheels will do for you!

When you get the new turbo, but a light coat of grease on your wastegate puck. bolt the unit to the turbo and actuate the puck by hand. Split the parts and verify the puck completely covers the wastegate hole in the exhaust housing.

and if you're feeling rambunctious, port that hole and smooth the transition. it might help you avoid some boost creep in the future.

This will b my first turbo exhange any other advise would be appriciated. Basically is there a step by step turbo exchange posted anywhere (with pictures or video)?

1) Soak both the three manifold to turbo bolts and four downpipe to turbo bolts with PB blaster, tap with a hammer, let sit for 15 mins...repeat. A little heat with a heatgun helps too.
2) DO use a new gasket at the collector; DO NOT use one on the turbo to downpipe connection.
3) As Earl mentioned earlier, verify puck alignment with wastegate hole before install. Mildy porting and radiusing the wastegate hole is advised. There's a sticky for that.
4) Everything else is pretty straightforward R&R, but....
5) Have fun reconnecting the turbo drain line. That's the worst part about the whole process. Make sure you do this before you reinstall the wastegate, o2 sensor, oil feed line, and bracket that connects to the head. This way you'll have more room to shimmy around things to line it up.

I would like to say thanks to everyone who helped me. You guys r terrific. eBay turbo gone. New TE 44 turbo, new boost solenoid, new y hoses. Next step continue fixing all the things the previous owner did wrong. Next up new up pipe and hoses, new MAF pipe. Lets get it.
