ta49 turbo w/ garrett .63 exh housing, 42.5 lb. injectors
or ta60 turbo w/ precision .63 exh housing, 42.5 lb. injectors
or ta60 turbo w/ precision .85 exh housing, 42.5lb. injectors.

I want to get an easy mid 12 setup without launching hard. (about 5 lbs. boost)
People say they ran 12's w/ 1.6 60' on the stock turbo, but I don't want to mess up the car since it has T-tops. Also, I will upgrade the intercooler but I've heard the front mounts restrict air flow to the radiator. This car is a street car that is raced maybe 4 times per year. Is it true that if I get the front mount, my car will not overheat because it is not highly modified. I want to be able to sit in traffic and not worry about overheating, but also want the best intercooler for racing. I will probably port and polish heads with mild cam upgrade in the future. I just want a setup that I won't have to push to the limit to run mid to low 12's.

I would say TA-60 with a .63 housing and you may also need to change the torque converter to about 3000-3200.

I think the TA-49 with 50's should be the ticket for what your trying to accomplish. I would not go with a front mount. If anything, get the PTE stock location intercooler.

I ran mid 12's with a stock turbo, downpipe, intercooler. I had 36 lbs blue tops and a K&N filter at 21-22 lbs of boost with 112-4 octane.

Hmm, if you're going to port and polish heads and change cam later, why would only mid 12's be your goal?? You can easily run mid 12's with the stock turbo and IC...just need the fueling and free flowing exhaust cutout/DP and some tuning.
Any of the above combos will put you into the 11's without the heads/cam. The TA49 would require a little more pushing it...but a 60 or 61 series turbo will go into the 11's easily without much tuning. No reason to spend big $$ if you're not wanting to go any faster than 12s IMO.
No knock is no knock no matter what the setup is. the same pressure/power is still being put thru the crank shaft to run the same time with either setup.

If you only want to run mid 12's I'd stay with the stocker and port it your self, go with a dutt neck on your stock I/C.

You say you only race it 4 times a year, right?

What's the rest of your combo?

It's not very hard for these cars to run mid 12's when they are right and some traction, even with just some exh and fueling upgrades.

I'd go for the 60's, and then bigger injectors, ie 60s.

A 1.6, with a 5 PSI launch?. That seems like a real feat, or at least will take some real work to do, IMO.
