Starter shield?

Man. I thought this would take awhile since NO ONE runs them anymore. I took it off an old engine today thats been sitting for 7 years under my bench.

And since Louie answered first he gets the prize which I lied about when I said it was nothing.

Louie, YOURE THE WINNER. And you get to fly down to Florida, at your expense, my wonderful wife and my wonderful self. Not only do you get to pay for our first class flight, but you also get to put us up in your house. We don't expect a lot...just food, board, taxi service, and some spending money.

You lucky guy you. Bet you didn't expect this much luck on a Thursday night

Why would nobody run one?

Id run 2 or 3 if I had a Chinese built lightweight starter.

i would also like to know this. i mean it keeps the heat not only away from the starter but also away from the wires going to the starter. clean it up with some steel wool and it looks clean as hell on the motor.

Years ago GM had crappy starters and they did need a heat shield. The starter would work fine when cold but once heat got into them they cranked slowly and sometimes wouldn't turn the engine over fast enough for it to start. (I had an old V8 Chebby that would crank so slowly when hot I could have a coffee between revolutions.)

When I said no one uses them I meant they're no longer necessary. Plus we play with our cars so much they become a headache taking them off and putting back on.

If you still have one on your car great...it doesn't do any harm. (Other than the 200 lbs it weighs. )
