Can't control much boost with my regulator valve

Here's the basics of my setup (details below): TE-60 with the ATR high boost actuator valve wastegate setup. I also have the under-hood boost control valve thing (little brass knob I can turn and secure with a hex set screw). Ideally, I'd think I could set and forget the actuator rod and vary the boost from street to strip via the easy to use knob (say from a range of 17 lbs to 23). However, I can only get a variance of about 1-2 lbs from full open to full close of the valve knob. This is a major pain because when I got to the track I have to wrench and yank around on the actuator rod (not easy on the high boost unit! not to mention getting burnt), to get my boost up to race levels, and changing it for tuning each pass, then again to go home in street trim. There's no leaks or anything, and boost is held fine and the car runs great, it's just a lack of tunability with my setup.
Any ideas?
I was thinking of going for the electric kind of boost control, but I don't know much about that expense and install wise.
Thanks
