i was looking at the coil pack set up on the T-Type the other day and noticed that the previous owner had run the spark plug wires in a different firing order than what was stated on the rad support. I also noticed that the pack didnt look like it fit the module right. has any heard of a different coil pack being used with the T Type module. The car runs great with the plug wires in the oder that they are now. I ask him about it and he said that after the coil replacement, the car wouldnt run with the advertised firing order. I m stumped.

Which plug wires go to which cylinder? My theory is, based upon the info given, that your problem is similar to a buddy of mine's Beretta. Bear with me while I explain and see if this fits your problem.

Now, most GM CCI ignitions and even later-model HEIs are what they call a "wasted spark ignition". This simply means that two cylinders fire at a time. Take, for instance, this scenario: If #1 cylinder is on the compression stroke, then the opposite cylinder (don't remember off the top of my head what the opposite # cylinder is) is on the exhaust stroke. The ignition module fires both cylinders, mainly to ignite any unburned hydrocarbons. If your timing is 180 degrees off, then your car should run fine with the plug wires routed funny. Try hooking them up in the right order and see what happens, then get back to me.

It makes no real difference if they're switched from front to back on the coil. If the coil seems smaller than the module, someone might've switched it with an 86-87 unit which is fine as long as you find a way to make it fit. There are 6 wires between the coil and module. 3 are grounds and it makes no difference how they're hooked up. The positives could be switched which would make swapping the plug wires around necessary.

Seems to me someone upgraded to the newer ignition module. Are the plugs on correct (by the markinngs on the coil pack?) When I swapped to a 86/87 module I had to change wires. The two years have a different way and I forgot so I plugged them in how the Radiator sticker says to, but I had to follow the coil pack instead. Look next to the wires on the coil pack and those numbers should be right. Good luck..

I finally got it running. I think the previous owner replaced the module and coil pack without using the harness adapter...(Is this even possible?) and this is causing the prob. I had to basically start with #1 and put it on a post until it stopped firing on the exhaust stroke. I did that for 1 through 5..6 was easy:) and now it runs great. The firing order is way different from the sticker and the pack. I think 3 and 5 are switched, and 2 4 6 are all wrong. I will check it out in the morning and give youa a definite order.
