Wife Being Harrassed

I need some info on how to get a name and address from just an email address.My wife is being harassed by someone online(I think I know who it is)and I need to remedy this situation before she really gets pissed off!!I am pretty sure it is a former co-worker of mine who had acces to my email account.Any advice/solutions would be helpful. I realy don't want to hire a PI because it would dip into my "parts fund" Thanks,AJ

problem is, just getting the name form the email address doesnt mean its the real info, especially if its hotmail or something...I sure there is a way to get their IP address, etc... through their messages, but I'm not a hacker.

Getting a name is going to be tough. But you can get a sending IP address pretty easy. Save the message to your computer in a .msg file format. Then open it up in a text editor like Notepad. Look for a line in there that starts with "X-MDRemoteIP:". The number after that is the IP address of the sending computer. You can then take that number to dnsstuff.com and do a Reverse IP lookup on it to get the host.

The problem is, unless they're doing something really stupid like sending this from a workplace, or a college, etc. all you're going to get back is the ISP's name and the location of the server it was sent from. Which probably doesn't get you very far. You'd then have to call the ISP and have them give you information, which will probably require police interferrence. And if they're using a free e-mail service, it's going to be doubly as hard.

Not saying that it can't be done, but it does require some leg work to get to especially if the person doing the harassing is trying to cover their tracks.

I would go down to your local PD and complete a report to put it on record. If anything does happen, it has been put on record. Bring copies of the e-mails and attach them to the report. You don't know what people are capable these days.

Explain harrassment.

Is it "I wanna be with U so leave ur husband" or is it "I'm gonna kill U and ur family"? If its the I wanna be with U then just change the address as suggested because thats just not a Police matter , but the threat would be.

here in michigan, any 'unwanted contact' is considered harrassment, and depending on who takes the call, could be filed as stalking. in which case they will follow up on it. the content doesnt matter. im not making this up either. but honestly, id just get a new email address.
