I'm trying to find out for my buddy if a TE-44 or comparable turbo will fit an 85 T-Type? We know a reclocked TA-49 will but can a non stock appearing turbo work on a Hotair? It seems like somebody is running a TE-44 on their car. Thanks.

If the throttle body has been relocated off of the turbo, then you can use a TE series turbo...A TA-49 and a TE-44 turbo use the same compressor and exhaust wheels but the compressor housing is different...The TA is stock appearing and the other isn't...The TA has the studs for mounting an inlet bell on it and the TE has a machined journal for the hose clamp for the air inlet tube...The TE housing is also a little bit more efficient housing and will make slightly more power than the TA using the same wheels...

Hey thanks Jim, that's exactly what we needed to know. Too bad as there are a couple of reasonably priced TE-44 in the classifieds. Any idea how big a TA-series turbo (i.e. 60 or 54) that he can comfortably fit on the V3? Thanks.
