I have a windows 2000 machine that is crashing under two scenarios and not sure how to remedy it. When I open Quickbooks it just stops, no mouse, no keyboard, no networking. Also, when I print something from word, about the second page the machine reboots. Any ideas or direction on where to find solutions would be greatly appreciated.

I ran 2000 for a long time, and whenever it did that to me, I just re-installed right over it. There's probably a way to do it with more finesse, but I'm a "10lb hammer for a 10 penny nail" kinda guy...

For starters, I would go get AVG antivirus, adaware and spybot. (Google will get you these) You should also run Windows update and see if that does anything. Win2k can be a finicky beast, but if you take care of it usually it'll take care of you. Avoid SP4 unless you're willing to have some fun, it trashed my laptop but YMMV. After these basics are covered, back up your saved stuff and re-install quicken first. Rather then a "brute force" re-install of windows, you may want to try a repair. Toss a win2K CD in the drive, then the install menu will come up in old school NT goodness. There should be a "repair" optoin avalible, just let it fix your system automaticly then run windows update again as it will over write any patches you had before.

Thanks for the help. I will try the 2000 disk first. The comp I am talking about is not online and neither are any of the comps on the network.

I will let you know how things go.
