Hey I was just wondering if a regular, non turbo 84 regal has an 8.5" rear end. Because I am shopping for a new posi unit and didn't want to get the wrong one. Thanks

MAYBE the diesel cars did but I don't think so, best I recall only the turbo cars used the 8.5 rear.

No unless it somehow escaped with one that was used because they were out of 7.5's. Only turbo cars and the Hurst 442 got 8.5" 10-bolts. Not even the Monte Carlo SS got the 8.5.

There were other cars with the 8.5" "corporate" rear end. The axle housing may be the wrong length, and it may be set up for the wrong springs, but the 10 bolt was used in a variety of vehicles. I had one in a '75 Nova, so you just have to check the salvage yards, and use the "interchange" books, if all you want is the posi. Not too bad a job to swap it into the rear of your GN. Or you can shop around, and buy a new Eaton.

FANGS= 7.5
TRIANGLES = 8.5

Just look below the rear cover, if it looks like dracula teeth its a 7.5, if below the cover looks flat like triangles its a 8.5
