It's not the S in the S&H that's so expensive! It's the "H"!

I agree it's high but alot of eBayer's "pad" their profits that way. With one exception (which required building a box to ship some f'glass running boards) I've always charged for shipping EXACTLY what it costs me.

There's a "Billet Specialties" decal on there right now that I'd like but it's got a $5 S&H charge too!

Oh, well.

It's too bad that some people resort to that nickel and dime stuff. Instead just charge resonable shipping and raise the price a buck.

Shipping has to be factored in when doing an online auction. So you can get a PT88 turbo for 100 dollars tho its 1000 shipping. At 1100 its not a bad deal. The complaint is the buying it at 100 when the shipping should have been 40.00. So the seller has the option for selling it at 1060 then say shipping is 40.00. Same price.. one draws more attrention than the other. Maybe..

Lastly, padded envelopes, printing invoices, paying for the auction, handling emails about what color is the background on the decal, non paying bidders, packages lost.. U name it.. 5.00 for a decal is fair.. So a 1 dollar decal price is 6.00. If its worth 6.00.. then its a non-issue. I look at my buying experience at whats it going to cost shipped and make my decision accordingly. Dont get mad on the shipping..call it a cost of doing business.

Ebay is a game.. hence why its an auction. The starting price isnt what is the price.. The buy-it-now price is. You go on ebay, get ready to play the game.

You guys are lucky to live on the Continental U.S.!! Being in the middle of the Pacific means that I occasionally pay more for shipping than for the actual part! :(

Don't get me started on shipping costs! :D

That's true....:D Thanks Otto!!

I bought a used laser fax off e-bay a few months ago. The seller would only ship via UPS. $60 & change for the actual machine... $150+ for shipping!! (I don't recall the actual costs.) :o

time is money

The seller has to get it to the post office. This takes time. At your job you surely don't perform tasks for free because they don't require much time or effort. Why would you expect others too?

Good point, Rich. This is exactly why I ship via UPS exclusively. I've had eBay sales for small parts that they wanted shipped via USPS because it was slightly cheaper. I do, however, charge for my time and effort and the Post Office is a PITA! I can box, print labels and ship UPS from my computer and never leave the house.

You can do the SAME THING with USPS also.

I wasn't aware of that. UPS is so easy, I've never investigated using USPS from home (except for mail delivery, obviously).

A week ago I ordered some very small parts. They were suppossed to be .25 each. I ordered 100. They called me said all we could locate were 25. I say ok. Send them my way. And asked if they would just put them inside an envelope and mail them, the company said no, we only ship by UPS. These parts are like the size of a very small c-clip. Non delicate.

Place is 80 miles away, I get the bill. 4.95 shipping, 2.00 handling, parts 6.25 total 13.20

For nickle-n-diming me.. they wont get anymore business.

Thats' the problem. If you order a small part that doesn't weigh much you get tucked. If you order a bunch or something that's heavier you get a reasonable fee for shipping. It's like you have to get a few people together to order someparts to make buying you part affordable for shipping.

I sell on Ebay & have sold over 1500 items. I would not have the GALL to charge $5. I don't give a crap about driving to post office.
That item could be dropped in a mail drop box anyplace in my travels.. End of disscussion..

How bout if you only sold less than 5 items per month? You had to buy expensive packaging supplies(quantity), and then had to drive to ship.

Ebay is a game.. at least when the cost for shipping is stated... its part of the deal. No gall issue. My issue is when its not listed and the seller wants to hose you.

So you buy a 100 dollar item for 15 dollars shipped.. who cares if shipping was 14.95.. you still made out like a bandit.

Lastly he's shipping it priority mail in a box so it doesnt get damaged. His cost is 3.85. So he's making $1.15 on the shipping, which still comes out of his listing and paypal fees. So he makes a buck.

If he put it in a manila envelope, and the decal got damaged.. he would get a big ol negative in trying to save the customer 3.00. Cost of large envelope, cost of postage. You know Ebay and how people are retards in leaving feedback. I think he's doing the rite thing, tho personally.. I would have listed shipping at 3.85 priority, and jacked the price on the decal from 6.95 to 7.95. Or 2.00 first class.. and not responsible for damages to decal.

I wouldnt do the insurance thing tho..thats a waste of time.

Peace guys.

Exactly.. 3.85.... they're charging 5. Not unreasonable..

Now if they charge 5, then put it in a stamped envelope.. thats a totally different feeling.
