Kinda reminds me of the Grizzly Bear guy that spent all his time documenting them in the wild getting real close to them and then the one bear ended up killing him as well as his girlfriend

Yea, I remember that dude.....He was cool! He had a name for em all and he was a crazy bastad too!! Some of the footage he got of himself and the bears was incredible.........Remember the little fox that used to follow him around.....Liked the tennis ball?

I swam with stingrays in the Cayman Islands. I didnt think they were deadly..I guess the ones I swam with were pretty tame. They werent in an aquarium either, they were in the middle of the ocean.

None are "tame" they are wild creatures. If they think their life is in danger they will sting. It's fast and you don't feel it. Lots of people swim with them without problem. You just need to keep an eye on that tail! Steve Irwin came up behind it and on top of it and it must have thought another creature was going to attack it so it swung the tail up and got him under the rib cage and up to puncture his heart. It was like a one in a zillion chance that would happen to someone.

Yep, in some cases it seemed as if the bears more or less just accepted him as not being a threat, but if I remember correctly the bear that killed him was the one that seemed to be anti-social towards his presence.... Guess you could say all it took was one bad bear in the bunch

Exactly! Like any wild creature you have to consider them as being a loaded weapon that can go off for no apparent reason (well at least no reason to us)... Animals follow their instincts and in this case unfortunately for Steve I think the Stingrays instinct was that it was threatened and needed to defend itself the only way it knows how..

Bottom line IMO is this was a freak accident, nothing more nothing less!

Yeah I was truly sad when I heard he died. Mostly because of all the work he has done for the zoo and the love he had for his family (fellow employees, immediate family and the crocs :biggrin: ) So I took it upon myself to buy 5 Fosters 25 ouncers in his memroy. I guarantee I wasnt the only one to think of this, Im predicting their beer sales will skyrocket in the next few days.

Everyone buy a Fosters when you read this and put it down for Steve and his family and friends.

Yep heard that on the news this morning... Gotta wonder if they will show the video, kinda sounds that way considering they are even making mention of it.. Not sure I'd like to see it though
