Attention RICE FANS,

NEXT WEEK'S PBS (motorweek) show, they are going to feature these two cars HEAD TO HEAD

I VOTE WRX sti

I say it's too close to call.....but should be fun to watch. I think the STI would rule on the dirt, the Evo would rule on the pavement. what channel is this on?

well i saw a new evo run 12.80@108 or 109, it did have an exhaust on it, i don't know what else. the owner of extreme motorsports had it at capitol raceway friday night. there is no telling what he had done to it. he also tunes wrx's as he had a crew of them out there in the 12's i think. this guy obviously knows his stuff, he has a 8-9 second eclipse that he races.

I check the NJN and NOT to many MotorWeek shows, THey are not carrying Maryland PBS's Motorweek FULL schedule, just shoving in a couple of shows in the Wee hours of the morning later this month, neither show is the one I'am referring to, HOWEVER, the SPEED CHANNEL covers Motorweek If you Have Cable or DSS
THe last show of this month is show # 2239, SO it may be show # 2240 which air's here on MPT next Saturday at 5 PM

These Cars are the NEXT STREET RULERS, NOTHING against turbo buicks, I LOVE EM, but these things are quick out of the BOX, are Lighter, WRX has All wheel drive traction, and there are TON's of aftermarket BOLT on's available.
REGARDS, Blackhawk38

all wheel drive is very nice in the 8th, not so nice in the 1/4. maybe im wrong, please feel free to inform me.

car and driver did a feature article on them both head to head...i think it was C&D i could be wrong...i read it and the EVO overall won but the STi was quicker

both cars are mid 13 sec cars off the showroom:eek:

The scary thing is it looks like the SRT-4 Neon is gonna whack them both in short order once the aftermarket gets rolling for those cars. Crazy...

either way, turbo's are makin a nice comback....even saturn has a tubo ion coming....should be interesting:D

The STi is quick as it has more power. The .5 extra liters of displacment really help. The Mitsubishi handles better though and has awsome brakes from the factory.

If the WRX costed 22.5K new and the STi snd EVO at 25K to 27.5K I would have probaly bought one.

I am really looking forward to the cars being out for a few years and used price to drop and I can get a nice STi or EVO at a fair price.

I'm with Twolane....

Both the STi and the EVO are "limited Production" and will set you back $30K, minimum. Both are "quick" stock, but will start breaking into the 12's. (breaking as in becoming broken)

For $3500 more you can buy a Cobra.

If you could buy an EVO for $23K (they are based on an a $11K car) they would be a bargain. $30K is a little steep.

every dealer that has an Sti around here is asking $2500 over sticker....puts 'em at $33K....I'll take the Cobra for the same $$ or a Mach 1 $5K cheaper!

I've raced an Evo head to head with my GN. I was pretty impressed...he took me off the line and it was dead even at the 1/8, but I blew past him after that. I had never seen an Evo before, and he had never seen a GN before, so it made for an interresting after race discussion.

As much as I like both cars if I had that kind of money to spend it would be on a new Cobra. The EVO is fast out of the box but it looks nearly maxed out from the factory. 19 psi, FM IC, and a pretty big turbo already. After intake and exhaust work, it seems the big gains are inside the motor or a bottle. The Subaru has a lot of potential but after seeing my friend's 11 sec wagon go through 5 trannies (first gear everytime) I'm not sure I would feel comfortable launching hard. Maybe the autos are better. The Cobra on the other hand is nearly bulletproof and everyone knows how they respond to little mods. Still, I would be happy with either car.

I agree, Rather have O3 SVT COBRA with Kenne bell SC

I have been on Kenne Bell's site, HE has some good MODS for the 03 Corba.

THE autorotor TWIN screw supercharger is good for a lot of ADDED A$$ kicking !!

STI

My best friend just picked his up a couple of days ago ,and I would have to say that this car is amazing. I think that the price is a little high ,but this STi is a great car. I have driven them both and I would rather have a STI. You get .5 more cubic inches of motor ,and you get DCCD ( Driver Control Center Diff) . His car was actually $300 less than the EVO.

If you're one who would opt for spending a bit more for a Cobra, you must live in a warm, dry climate. That car would be fun in great weather, but good luck putting any decent power down (or even trying to get to work!) when it's raining or snowing.

As far as the S(ucks) R(ight) T(urning) 4 Neon as a contender with Mopars power packages...they better have a limited slip as option #1 on all packages, or that thing is going nowhere but straight (once you get it straight from toque steer). On stock power, it just lights up the inside front tire on tight right had turns taken under power.

On Super Tuner Tv today they had a head to head between the Evo and the Sti. The sti ran the 1/4 at 13.1 the Evo @ 13.4. But the Evo took the Sti in the slalem and on the skid pad.
If I remember right the Sti was .91 and the Evo .96(?) lateral g's.

I can't stand tose two guys on that show, but I wanted to see what that Sooby would do.

who honestly cares about having performance in the rain or snow?

People in cars that ENABLE them to.
WRC is only the most popular form of auto racing worldwide.

How do you know until you've tried? My last car was an '88 Mazda 323 GTX, a 4wd turbo hatchback that virtually launched this whole market segment, and I can say there's hardly anything better than driving flat out in the rain or snow. Until you've driven a really fast 4wd car, you dont' know what you're missing. The advantages of great grip are incredible. There's nothing like blowing by all the other traffic in a roaring downpour, or powersliding around snowy corners in total control.

The drivetrain on my GTX wasn't stout enough for drag racing, and it wasn't built for that. The STi and Evo aren't built for dragging, either, but they are closer to bulletproof than most cars after years of development as winning rally cars. If I had $30k for a new car, the Evo would be 1st on my list and the STi would be 2nd.
