Has anyone went to look at an apartment and after telling them how much money you make they reply with "Well, due to governmnet rules you can't live here" "You make too much money to live here" WTF ! I can't believe this crap! I am the true minority:

23 yrs old
White
Single/never been married
No children/dependents besides a cat
Never used the government to support myself

Can anyone chime in and tell me what this world is based on so I can fit in?????

are you appling to live in a goverment subsidised apt? if not what they did was illegal. i am not sure but it falls under the EOE laws maybe someone with a better idea will chime in.

its an interesting subject.

I would bet they get government assistance for their tennants and charge the government way more than the going rate for comparable apartments. Since you make too much they can't get any government assistance and can only get what you would pay them so they don't want you.

That sounds like what I think happened too. In fact, I've been told the same thing in college when I applied at one by mistake. If that is the case you don't want to live there anyways. Though you might be able to get free government cheese! :D

thats america today

basics of renting is you cant discriminate against race but you can against credit report

nothing there says anything about making too much so If you want to live there go back and let them know that they face discrimination charges if they dont accept your app. and at the normal going rate for your area

A similar thing happened to my wife and i.
she has been going to school to be a court reporter and in her first year she qualed for assistance and a single female who didnt make much money in the prev year. her original start date was jun of 2002 so her app when in then...come jun 2003 she reapplied and had made even less money the last year. well because we got married in april they now used my tax forms and said WE made to much money. so she qualed for nuthing!.....what a crock of sheeeet i say, i understand the need to help poor women get schooling but damn! we hadnt been married last year so what gives?
so i feel your pain

That actually looks WORSE than most of the "Section 8" housing in Texas. Ya see, you have to raise the self esteem up first...

I thought it looked pretty decent. Maybe decent for here in Ohio. I've never been to Texas, but I'm sure it's a lot differnet. See, where I'm at now I'm upstairs, the windows are thin and I'm right in front of a busy street, real busy. That doesn't bother me as much as being 32 miles away from my work. That's why I'm thinking about moving.

What I'm biotching about is the fact I felt kinda discriminated against. However, I don't have the time or money to pursue any legality procedures. Oh well, I guess I'm done ranting for now. Thanks for all that replied. Jason

Government sponsored discrimination is LEGAL. Legal procedures would get you NOWHERE. The democrat party has proven time and time again that their is no sympathy for those who are too "rich", too white or too male.

The apartment people are accepting your tax dollars (probably in property tax abatements) to subsidize the rent of the people they rent to. I'd do it to. It's a pretty good scam.
