Is it bad on an engine when it is mixed in w/the fuel to up octane?

No, as confirmed by Doug Connor, who worked in as a petro chemist.
You need to add some mystery marvel oil for lubrication.
Mix 1/3 xyxlene to 2/3 gas. I add 1-2 oz MMO.
