I think what BoostCrzy is hinting at, is that if people were forced (by super high gas prices) to find other means of transportation, the world would be a better place. (Less pollution, less consumption, etc...) Why do you think most people in large European cities drive Festivas, mopeds...

The answer to your question would be that rural people should car pool to conserve fuel....
