Has anybody been straightened out by a chiropractor who other wise was expieriencing constant back pain for more that 2 weeks? I ask this because I just got an adjustment and electrical stimulation (on the back that is ;get ur minds out of the gutter!) ) and at this point Im feelin great. Im just waitin to lock up at anytime now, but maybe this is gonna work. Please comment.

If something is outta place or pinched, pulled etc, then yes it works. If something is damaged say a disc, then no.

I NEVER would go to one ,but when my back was so bad I could not stand up straight ,I did see go and the next day was good as new.....

Recommmend them....

Been going since a motorcycle accident in 1983. Worth it to me and my back.

A good chiropractor can help you. Get adjustments until your straightened out and don't go back unless you hurt it again. They all will try to get you to come in every month.

There is a place for Chiropractors....But I do not believe they have the last word on nutrition or curing/preventing the common cold. My mother lost her cardiac health following a pseudo nutritionist/chiropractor....All she needed 40 years ago was pills for high blood pressure, the chiropractor sold her snake oil. :(

My choice is a D.O. A Doctor of Osteopathy is a physician oriented to holistic methods and is also trained to do 'adjustments.'

A good physical therapist is a better risk than a pure bone cracker. :)

That is my bias after 35 years of back problems....An MD will prescribe pills, a DO will take a broader look and focus on the whole person with pills and manipulations, a Chiropractor will focus on nutrition and manipulation, A physical therapist is the one best trained to get you moving again without pain. :)

I'm glad to see so many positive comments. I'm a Chiropractor and Buick nut :D

Find a good (ethical doc) and you shouldn't have this problem. Depending on the condition and the extent of the injury some problems will never resolve completely (regardless of the treatment) and may need and benefit from supportive care. Talk to you physician first and don't make the mistake of basing your condition solely on the amount of pain you are experiecing. Pain is a symptom and not a problem and is a VERY poor indicator of overall health regardless of the health problem.

Good rule of thumb, most acute low back pain will see 30-80% decrease in symtoms in the first two weeks. Normal treatment duration is 2-8 weeks and ususally not beyond 12 weeks. Disc injury/herniation/slipped disc can significantly increase recovery time up to 12 months. This can all vary greatly depending on the person and condition.

If you guys need anything feel free to send me a PM or e-mail.

i couldnt put my socks on one morning my back was hurting so bad. It had been hurting for weeks but never did anything about it. My buddy had been to one and swore by him so i went. He took x-rays to see if there is anything wrong in the vertabre like bad discs etc. he wouldn't touch me if there was. layed me on my stomach and noticed one leg longer than the other and that was pinching a nerve in my back/hips area. He did his cracking adjustment procedure and the next day i had no problem putting my socks on. For me i went back about 5 or 6 times and all was well. I guess the big school for chiropractor is in davenport IA. My doc went there. I said the same thing i wouldnt trust them. Im glad i went.

Jetmech---thats what I have

One leg longer than the other---after adjusting and rechecking I was still about a 1/4 inch off he said----I still feel much better but the morning get up will be the real test. man U guys are great thanx for all the responses--its good to know my Buick brothers also have back issues :D .

For anyone with chronic back pain which chiropractic does not help, or offers only temporary relief, I suggest reading Healing Back Pain by John Sarno, M.D.

It, without question, freed me from years of back problems so now I find myself spreading the word whenever I can.

I have had this arguement here on board. There are a few guys who do this for a living on TB.

The question in General? Are CHIROPRACTORS for real or Quakers. Hard to tell.

I have been to 3 different Chriopractors in my lifetime. Back in the 70's the guy did all CRACKING/MANIPULATION. Worked well.

Then in the 80's I went to this guy who kept trying all these different ideas.
I told him flat out the cracking works best for me. We sorta became car friends as he owned a Vette. He told me when I was hurting or back felt tired just lie on a flat floor for 10 or 15 mins.. I been doing that ever since.

The Last Guy I went to is a FOSSEL he 2 steps from the grave. When I felt OK he said I was out of whack. he would BARK out to his receptionist give steve Multiple visits. I kept thinking he needed it for his $$ wallet.

Then I when I would be really hurting & he would ask me how I felt I said Great Doc! He agreed that I was fine.. This Guy was a quack he could not tell. That is how I got to be the worlds poorest Armo. by going to him. I Burned & Learned fast Stopped going to him.

I NEVER GO anymore.
I have my Son crack my spine by him pulling me up on his back & leaning forward. I save tons of money doing this.

Could not have said it better!!!!!!! I have been going to them for years only when I really flared up. I tried a guy who talked me into a regular schedule and I always hurt(so did my wallet). I think its because if you get adjusted too much, you never heal.

Chiropractors are like mechanics, when you find a good one, you have to keep him! Every once in a while, I will hurt my back while doing something stupid, and I go see the chiropractor. It feels great! Adjustments also help with tension headaches, and help me to relieve a lot of stress. I very rarely get sick or hurt, but I try to see a chiropractor on a regular basis for routine maintenance.

chiro is the real deal. Using TENS (electrical stim) also helps. I've been using them for a few years for my back pain... Helps alot...

Wormer is a fossil. He's got a hot daughter though! Looks like the wife did when she married him. 30 year difference in age  She came straight from Mexico and hooked a Dr. at 18.
