I'm going to post this on a Grand Prix forum, but I'm waiting to be approved as a member... and I've always gotten a quick response with all my GN questions here!
When the engine is cold and I go to start the car, it never wants to start on the first try (or stumbles and dies quickly after about 5 seconds), then on the second try and any other try within two hours or so it starts right up. This has been going on for about a week now.
This Monday in the morning, when the car started, the RPMs were bouncing around between around 1800 and 600 (wanting to stall, but didn't) and I couldn't drive it. After spraying some throttle body cleaner, it ran fine. I ended up taking it in to have the entire fuel and air system cleaned and now it runs great, but it's still slow to start when its cold.
I've replaced the spark plugs and air filter, and the fuel pump was replaced about 3 or 4 months ago. Oil needs to be changed soon, but I don't think that's related.
Here's the thing, when I turn the key I can hear the fuel pump prime, but it does this every time I turn the key. It's been a while since my GN ran, but if I remember correctly it only primed when the pressure was low and not every time the key was turned, but I could be mistaken. As for the Grand Prix, sometimes if I prime the fuel pump two or three times, I may get the car the start on the first try, but not always.
I'm thinking its the fuel pump, but I wanted to get your opinions on what you think since a new one from AutoZone costs about $280, and I'm about to go Guile from Street Fighter on my car if pay for it and it doesn't fix it (GOD I miss paying for parts for my GN!!!).
Any ideas?
