05 Yukon XL, Driver information center buttons don't work HELP.

I down loaded the owner's manual and read the DIC section 5 times.
To try and under stand how this stuff works.
Anyway
when i push the "trip odometer reset stem" i can scroll through the 1-hours, 2-miles and trip. i can also reset the trip.

Using the buttons (Trip Information, Fuel Information, Customization and Select) on the steering wheel NOTHING HAPPENS.

The stereo and On-Star buttons work fine.

where should i start in trying to fix this thing?

I had a similar problem on my TBSS and the dealer changed out the clockspring in the column
