Well I am having a stroker built. What are the opinions on this rather than a stage or a TA build?I went this route to keep the stock block look but might be changing my mind.Any input is appreciated.Thanks.

I think it depends on what you plan to do with car. IMO really tough to find good usable Stage Parts anymore. If I was building a race car I would go with the TA block. If I was building a fast street car, I would go with a 109 Girdled block with ported irons to keep cost down:cool:

I was also thinking about the stroker set-up. cheaper SBC Rod selection. I was just talking to a dude in MD about building me one. Very tempting. Looks like around $5000 for a built short-block, eagle crank, pistons, rods, etc....just add your own heads, and on, and on.

What is the deal with the TA block? Is it that strong? I guess you can use more head bolts? What, fourteen? How about weight? Does it weigh a lot less than a 109? Are they about $4000?

I'm doing mine with a bms crank good set of rods and ross pistons.I decided to go this route to keep the stock block look but I might sell it when its done and build a TA motor.

I talked with my engine builder about a stroker 109 using an Eagle crank. He said the rods would be cheaper and the crank isn't too bad, but it's the custom JE pistons that would cost about $1000  .

Find a new machinist

JE should be under $600

Storker crank??

Who has a 3.59 off center crank avalible and how much are they?

A used BMS stroker crank in good shape will run about 1500.00 and up.

A new Crower from TA perf is 2300.00 new.

You could have Andersons offset grind a Eagle crank with use for chevy rods. You will gain some cubes and it will be much cheaper.

;)

I fell if you are going to spend that kinda of money building a stock block, you might as well build an stage 2 motor..

Be/c when it comes down to it, you are putting a lot ofstage 2 motor parts in a stock block, which means that the parts interally are stronger that the block is.... you can make the block stronger but then you are just spending alot of money on machine work... I fell if you are going to spend that kind of money and go that rought with the car....dont mess around and do it right the first time......then you would have one of THE BADDEST, IF NOT THE BADDEST CAR ON THE STREET...... sorry I dont know to many cars that have the potenal to go low 9's or even high 8's and still be streetable..... and I mean Streetable as in decent gas milage, and not over heating....etc

What's the cost of offset grinding the Eagle Crank?

Stock turbo Rod is 5.960 correct?

What size Chev rod is used?

For the crank, offset ground to 3.550 stroke with 6.100 rods for offcenter blocks, including rod bearings. You are looking at $1500

What aren't stock rods being used, compression, or other reasons?

Ted a longer rod producese les side loading on the skirts and also provides a little more clearance between the shirts and the counterweights on the crank.

Bill what are you guys using for balancers with these cranks??

I am thinking of going this route and was wondering about how the reluctor ring for the crank sensor would work with the new cranks.

Somebody educate me!!! Just got back into these things and EVERYTHING has changed since the late 90's.

Thanks!!!
