get a better I/C, such as a stretch one like Thunder Fabrications 20 row or like me a PTE FM. that will help you out alot because when you start turning the stock turbo past 20psi it starts to heat the charge pretty good but with a good I/C you can turn it up to 22-23psi but don't go over that or you will pop a head gasket or it will only slow you down! i am shooting for 11's right now and i'm real close but i have a real good idea what it takes.ohh, and did i mention doing a good launch, like a 1.70 or better. cause if you do not 60' you can forget the 11's. i set the e-brake and build 5psi and then a push the gas right before i let off the brake to get the upswing of the turbo and i let it rip. the best 60' i've had is 1.67 w/9" hoosiers but i have some suspension work to do. let me know if you have any other questions.

Yes, you can do it. If you want to do it more easily you can get a good set of heads. Best I ran was 11.93 @ 114 MPH with the stock turbo at only 16 PSI boost and a GOOD set of heads and 210/205 cam.

However, you can do it with stock heads and more boost (23-24 or so) and a lot of timing and race gas/alky, and MUCH traction.

If your going to keep the stock heads, its just a lot easier on the car to run a decent turbo like a TE-44. Its got the top end kick that the stocker lacks. Whatever you do, make sure you DO upgrade the injectors to at least 40's, the fuel pump and adjustable regulator.

The GN got to 12.08 @ 109 with:
Stock Turbo, 40 lb injectors, stock heads and cam, adjustable regulator, alky injection, 3" DP, slicks and our chip tweaking and 23-24 psi.

Put the TE-44 and V4 intercooler on and went back to track:
11.76 @ 115 MPH.

Your choice which way to go. You should be able to get into the 11's relatevely cheap and low 12's for next to nothing $$..

Good luck.

Thats my goal too.....

Since the times posted in my sig - I have added a ported elbow (thanks Snorman) and removed about a 75lbs. Now I can't get the car to stick but it did pick up 1mph - time for a posi!

I went 12.10 @ 113 years ago with the stock turbo, stock intercooler(no big neck), stock D-5/tranny, and an unopened long block. That was with a 1.7-something 60ft.

It is possible but would be easier with the other upgrades mentioned above. I had a goal to run 11's with the stock turbo, but gave up on that after I had run some mph's that would have given me a 11-sec slip.

I recently had a goal to run in the 10's with 93-octane (see sig. below), but have given up on that also. I'm now just going to add the C-16 and turn her up!!;)

Low 12s/high 11s would be around high 7.5s/low 7.6s in the eighth. Anyway I'm working towards that goal also, see my website for minor mods. In addition next year I'll try a Thrasher 108 with more timing (currently Thrasher 100), HD actuator for 23 psi (currently 21 psi), port the turbo exhaust housing, and box the LCAs. I think the 60 foots wound need to be at least down into the 1.6s to achieve your ET goal.

A few people who have done this you can search on the board for are stevemon, KEVINS, and UNGN.

I agree with everone above. I'm still using stock turbo, stock IC w/ small neck, stock D5, etc and I'm stuck solidly at 12.1's. I tried different timing last time out but it didn't like it and it went a little slower although the suspension work I did gave me an all time best of 1.61 60'. I am now back to my original timing and I feel that with a higher launch boost I will see the 11's. If not then I'll get a better IC, either a big neck or a stretched unit and that "should" put me solidly in the 11's.

I have detailed everything on my web site in my sig..

Once you get into a higher boost launch, Kevin's suspension setup should get you into the 1.6s. In fact, it's something I'll try along with the boxed LCAs. If I had Kevin's 60' time, I could definitely be in the 7.6s. I can't launch over 5 psi without losing traction:o

Why does everybody have a fetish with changing EVERYTHING but the turbo and seeing how fast they can go? Why not strap on an 88, but use 165R/15s???

BTW, Vetter went 11.42 with the stock turbo. Beat that!!!

i dunno, maybe some of us want a challenge i guess, also to see the faces of the other non stock turbo guys when we race them:eek:

BTW, an 88 Turbo??? it would be a firework show if you stuck that on a stock TR.
