145 Speedometer

I installed this 145 speedo from Poston's exactly a year ago and my mileage before I installed it was right at 64k miles...well a year later and I drive the thing everyday and now it only registers 72,910 miles which is bs...

I knew when I installed it that it would throw the mileage off and also throw the computer off...on turbolink it shows i am only going 35 when the speedo show around 60

also my odometer tends to start "clicking" at the 9's before it turns over to a 0 and it stalls for like 7 miles not turning over once....so i have no idea what the hell my mileage is anymore but i have a rough estimate...

a known distance from point a to b is 7 miles....well my trip odometer will read 4.8 miles which is like 68% of what my car is actually going...if my car shows 72k but really it should be 74k due to that clicking...i have 10k miles shown since i installed....now times that by 68% and it's like 8200 more actual miles i have driven...so add that to the 10k and my total mileage is around 81k??? i think that's right...anyways i am very disappointed with this speedo and was wondering if anyone else has gone through the same thing...i really miss my old 85 speedo and how simple it was...i installed that reducer cable thing that came with the new speedo and can't find the old one so i can't go back...any other ideas or comments?

I don't know if the original cable is still available, but you could probably get a replacement for Bweavy or Mike McCoy. A better fix would be to have your 145 MPH speedo recalibrated by a speedometer shop. Then your scan tool, odometer and speedometer will read properly. Also, cruise control problems (if any) may also be resolved. I actually ordered a recalibrated unit from Kirban and it works great, though I've seen a post (regarding appearance) to the contrary. But since you have a odometer with the overlay, just get it recalibrated.

I have the same kit and like it, because I cant mess with the SM2 when going a buck 25 to see how fast I am going. As far as the reducer all you do is take it out and reattach the cable, there is nothing for you to look for. Is recalibration a thing just about any tranny shop can do and how much is it? I would like my odometer to be accurate also

Since your speed sensor is a permanent magnet type hall effect switch, recalibration by a speedo shop is probably required. The recal will not only make your speedo read correct, but the odometer and speed sensor signal will read correct. A local speedo shop here in sacto quoted $50-80 to recal, so that is probably the going rate.

The only thing is I dont know of any "speedo" shops
(except the ones that sell mens swimsuits )

Sorry about that . Try looking up Speedometers in the yellow pages. Also, your local GM dealer should know of a place that performs this service. I just don't know if a transmission shop has this capability.

Since I live in CA and don't know much about MI, I found these places in Pontiac. I don't know where you are in relation to Pontiac, but this is a start.
